Student answer (Band 6.0)

Water is one of the basic need of human life. Either for living or doing daily life chores, I totally agree with the idea that water should be provided to everyone free of charges.

Clean water is not the only basis need for human, but it is also essential for daily chores, if clean water is not available, many individuals, especially the unprivileged families might not possible afford drinking water, which will force them to drink unfiltered water and they will become vulnerable to many diseases, not only internal but external such as skin diseases as well. Most probably, in those situation, children and infants got highly effect by those diseases. They hardly afford to meet their daily lives need, it would be unfair to them. Unavailability of clean water and diseases caused by this will lead to paying medical bills that can affect their lives terribly.

Although the procedure to provide clean water to every household must be complicated, there are some government sectors that work to provide clean water and those costs should be Accomodated from tax budgets. Every citizen pay taxes for this and it should be accommodate through taxes without further charges. It is a government's responsibility that every household should receive the clean water for drinking.

In my conclusion, the drinking water is one of the essential need for human life. The consequences are far worse than the benefits. The government need to take action action and manage the expenses through taxes so the lower family could relieve from paying extra money, along with other life's needs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by clearly stating a position that water should be provided free of charge, and it maintains this stance throughout. The ideas presented are relevant, such as the discussion on underprivileged families avoiding diseases and government funding via taxes. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others; for instance, the point regarding children and infants being affected by diseases is introduced but lacks extension or a concrete example. The reasoning touches upon necessary economic and health impacts, but a few arguments remain slightly under-developed, aligning the response with a solid mid-level performance where the main position is clear and supported, though deeper elaboration on the socioeconomic benefits would elevate the content further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas from the introduction through body paragraphs focusing on health impacts and government responsibilities, ending with a logical conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct main points, such as moving from individual health consequences to state funding solutions. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or features faulty referencing, as seen in transitions like 'in those situation' and 'The government need to take action action'. While the logical flow is easy to follow overall, the management of cohesive devices and reference pronouns lacks the flexibility and seamlessness required of higher bands.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'unprivileged families', 'vulnerable to many diseases', and 'government sectors'. However, there are noticeable vocabulary and word choice errors, including 'basic need' instead of 'basic needs', 'basis need', 'not possible afford', and 'lower family' instead of 'lower-income families'. Additionally, there are word form and spelling slips such as 'Accomodated' and repetition of the word 'action'. These inaccuracies do not impede overall communication, but they restrict the lexical score, showing that while the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the argument, precision and control are lacking.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to vary sentence structures with clauses starting with 'Although' and 'if clean water is not available'. There are some errors in grammar, punctuation, and agreement throughout the text, such as 'children and infants got highly effect', 'Every citizen pay taxes', and 'the drinking water is one of the essential need'. Despite these frequent minor errors in verb forms, articles, and pluralisation, the structures remain generally clear and rarely impede the reader's understanding. To reach the next level, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free sentences and demonstrate tighter control over complex grammatical patterns.
