Student answer (Band 5.0)

This is a very important topic to discuss. Water is a great blessing of Allah, and it is very important to everyone even there are humans, animals, insects, birds, and also for all living beings. It is the basic need of all the creations. Nobody can live without water.

So in every place clean water is the most important need of every being and it's our goverenment duty to deliver the clean water in every city or area. I think not only water is needed but clean water is essential. In many cities or areas in our country there in not clean water available. Dirty water is delivered to most of the cities, due to this it causes of many dangerous diseases like fever, stomach problems, malaria and many other dieases. People face many problems due to this. Water is our basic need it is our goverenment duty to provide clean water for peoples.

It is our right that in every home have water supply which is free of cost because it is against our relegion that people pay for water. Water is not the thing which we buy it is our basic need. So I think it should be free of cost and deliver to every home by our goverenment. Good and pure water system is one of the great thing which shows our country the best and rich country.

At the end, I only say that water is the basic need of everybody so our goverenment should not pay for it and it supply in every home. So that peoples spend their lifes happily and easily

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position that clean water is a basic human right and should be provided free of charge by the government. However, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. While the student mentions health consequences like 'fever, stomach problems, malaria and many other dieases' and religious arguments against paying for water, these points are not fully extended or supported with deeper reasoning or concrete external examples. The discussion stays at a generalised level without exploring alternative economic perspectives, such as how maintenance costs for infrastructure might be funded. This places the task response in the band where the task is addressed only partially, featuring a clear stance but limited elaboration.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation in the essay, moving from the general importance of water to health impacts, religious arguments, and a concluding thought, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. The paragraphing is weak; the main body is lumped into dense blocks of text rather than being logically separated by distinct arguments. Furthermore, cohesive devices are inadequate and repetitive, relying heavily on basic linkers like 'So' to start sentences, such as 'So in every place clean water...' and 'So I think it should be free...'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, which prevents the essay from flowing smoothly and establishes a mechanical feel throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for discussing the topic. The student relies on basic, repetitive terms such as 'important', 'basic need', and 'water' throughout the response. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word forms that cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'goverenment' instead of government, 'dieases' instead of diseases, and 'relegion' instead of religion. Attempts at less common vocabulary are minimal, and phrases like 'it is against our relegion that people pay for water' lack precision and appropriate stylistic collocation for academic writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of structures, consisting mostly of simple and repetitive sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions. Attempts at more complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to structural breakdowns such as 'Water is a great blessing of Allah, and it is very important to everyone even there are humans, animals, insects, birds, and also for all living beings.' There are frequent errors in grammar, plurals, and prepositions, including missing articles ('deliver the clean water'), subject-verb agreement issues ('it causes of many dangerous diseases'), and awkward prepositional patterns. These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control over sentence architecture.
