Student answer (Band 4.5)

Water is an important basic need in our lives. Water play a big role in every living being. There is a right also every body want to drink clean water. So, water should be provided free of cost. Throw the water anything should be change. In every home should have a water supply that is provided free charge.

In my opinion, drinking water should be free of cost. i totally disagree with the system where people paid the charge of drinking water. Some of families are not able to pay the charge of water due to there less income. The main thing should be change is people can access to clean water is a basic human right.

Additionally, people are unable to pay the charge and most necessary things is people have their right to drink water they want. In my country for example: there are some poor people living in my hometown they are unable to pay any kind of charge and they have no income source so not in my hometown in many places there are the people with no income. Our main opinion is people have access to drink clean water.

Therefore, drinking clean water have lots of advantage many people maintain their body have lot of water in their daily life. Most of the unhealthy people balance their body by drinking enough water.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially. While the writer attempts to present a position regarding whether clean water should be provided free of charge, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the argument that low-income families cannot afford water is introduced, but it is not sufficiently extended or supported with clear reasoning. Additionally, the essay fails to meet the minimum length requirement, containing only 227 words instead of the required 250 words. To improve towards a higher band, the writer needs to fully develop each main idea with relevant explanations and examples while ensuring the word count requirement is fully satisfied.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some organisation evident through basic paragraphing and simple linking words like 'Additionally' and 'Therefore', but the text lacks a clear overall progression. The relationship between sentences is often unclear, resulting in a disjointed flow of ideas. For example, the transition between discussing low-income families and the health benefits of water in the final paragraph feels abrupt and lacks logical connection. Cohesive devices are used rather inadequately and sometimes repetitively. To achieve a higher score, the writer must organise ideas more logically from introduction to conclusion, ensuring each paragraph has a central theme and that referencing between sentences is clear and precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The writer relies heavily on basic, repetitive words and phrases such as 'important basic need', 'charge', and 'clean water'. There are noticeable lexical errors, including word choice and collocation mistakes like 'Throw the water anything should be change' and 'people paid the charge', which cause some difficulty for the reader and impede clear communication. To move up to the next band, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range, incorporate less common lexical items with greater precision, and pay closer attention to appropriate word forms and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical structures used are very limited, consisting mostly of basic sentences. Attempts at more complex structures are frequently faulty, leading to frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can distort meaning, such as 'Water play a big role' and 'Some of families are not able to pay the charge of water due to there less income.' There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement, pluralisation, and preposition usage within grammatical patterns. To reach a higher band, the writer must demonstrate control over a wider variety of sentence structures and significantly reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors.
