Student answer (Band 5.5)
In many countries of the world, it is argued by some people that in the every house should have a water supply is free off cost because it the primary right of the human. Although some might agree with this notion, but I completely disagree with this. Not only because of poor water supply and bad infrastructure, but also because economic effect.
There multiple downsides associated with the supply of water in every home free of charge. Firstly, poor supply is the effect of free of charge supply. As people should not pay the charge of water supply than the material of supply is not good that effect the supply. Take an example, in Japan people did not get good water supply because the citizen of this country did not pay the charge of water supply. Hence, people should pay the charge of the water supply for better and good supply.
Secondly, the infrastructure of the water supply is bad. As water supply of home is provided free of cost than the government should not maintain the infrastructure. For instance, a survey conduct in China, most people bad infrastructure is the result of free off charge water supply. Thus, bad infrastructure is the result of free off cost water supply.
Finally, economic effect is also the result of this. As government should not get enough money that effect the economy.
To sum up, I believe that poor supply, bad infrastructure and economic is leading drawback of this that why people should pay the charge of water supply.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position of complete disagreement with the idea of free water supplies for every home. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. While reasons such as infrastructure maintenance and economic impacts are introduced, they are supported by very generalized or unconvincing claims, such as unsourced assertions about Japan and China. The main arguments are stated rather than fully extended, and some points are repetitive. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to provide deeper, more coherent explanations with realistic examples that genuinely substantiate the arguments presented.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
There is a coherent overall arrangement to the essay, and the use of paragraphing is visible, breaking the response down into an introduction, distinct body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and repetitive, relying heavily on simple sequence markers like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Finally'. Referencing and logical progression are occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'that why people should pay', which disrupts the flow. To achieve a higher level, the writer must employ a wider, more flexible range of cohesive devices without over-relying on basic listing words, ensuring smoother transitions between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to communicate the basic argument regarding water supply and economic effects. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as 'free off cost' instead of 'free of cost', 'economic effect' where an adjective or noun form is awkward, and unusual word choices like 'leading drawback of this'. Spelling and word choice errors appear frequently enough to cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to expand their lexical range, pay closer attention to standard collocations, and ensure correct word forms and prepositions within lexical chunks.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, such as in the opening sentence ('it is argued by some people that in the every house should have a water supply is free off cost'). There are frequent errors in article usage, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, including 'in the every house' and 'a survey conduct'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty and strain for the reader. To progress, the writer must demonstrate better control over basic sentence construction, reduce grammatical errors, and reliably produce error-free simple sentences while improving accuracy in complex forms.
