Student answer (Band 6.0)

I strongly admit that access to a clean water is a basic human right and every human must have water supply free of charge.

In this era, there are some countries that do not have clean water to supply to their population therefore, they need to install water filtration plants with high storage capacity to provide clean and filtered water to their population. Such factor requires a lot of money. Most of the people thinks government should provide subsidy for that because access to clean water is a basic right of a human's life.

Clean water is required for every house in a country for various essential purposes for example, cleaning, cooking, bathing etc. Without clean water survival of human's life is not possible. If a government is charging for clean water, it would be hard for the population to manage their incomes. Some people do water well system to get clean water directly from under the ground. They have installed a pump on the ground surface so, whenever they need clean and fresh water they turn on the pump and get clean water.

In conclusion, it is a basic human right to have access to clean water whenever they need. A country should install water filtration plants and provide free access of clean water to every house in the country, wether the house is in urban area or in a rural area. Water well system is a good option too if the government of the country is not providing clean water.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear stance on whether clean water should be free. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, which is characteristic of this level. For instance, the discussion on water filtration plants and government subsidies is introduced but remains somewhat general, while the point about private water well systems is mentioned briefly without a deeper exploration of its viability for everyone. The position is clearly stated in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion, but extending the supporting arguments with more specific examples or broader consequences would elevate the task response further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Information and ideas are generally presented in a logical sequence, such as moving from the general right to clean water into governmental responsibilities and alternative solutions. However, cohesion at times feels mechanical or slightly repetitive, and referencing is not always completely clear, such as the abrupt transition when introducing the water well system in the third paragraph. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, but smoother transitional phrases would enhance the flow between sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their main ideas successfully. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary and topic-specific terms, such as 'filtration plants', 'subsidy', and 'storage capacity'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word forms, such as 'I strongly admit' instead of 'I strongly believe', 'a clean water' omitting the correct article structure, and 'wether' which is a spelling error. These lexical slips do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the score, and more precise word choice is needed to reach higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional clauses ('If a government is charging...') and relative clauses. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including article omissions ('access to a clean water', 'survival of human's life'), subject-verb agreement issues ('Most of the people thinks'), and minor prepositional misuse. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To improve, the writer needs to increase control over complex sentence structures and eliminate recurring grammatical inaccuracies.
