Student answer (Band 5.5)
Water is a basic requirment for every living thing. Availability of clean water is a fundamental human right. So every home should have a tax free water supply.
i strongly agree with this statment and I will provide reasons for it in next few paragraphs.
In ancient times people use to live near water resources like rivers, glaciers and water ponds. Clean water remained the essential need of human beings since the stone ages. Due to high significance of water many wars took place between different counteries over the conflict of water. This shows clear water was always and imortant asset.
Along with drinking clean water, we also use it in our daily life to cook food.Durig present time due to high cunsumerism of goods, industries are working day and night to fulfill the production targets and as a result they are also producing a lot of waste material which causing water polution. Underground water is not clean as per standards. To cover the daily needs of clean water , water supplies have been installed in cities. For example in my city we only obtain water from water supply which is provided by local government. Government charges monthly water bills for this service. I strongly believe that water is a basic human need so it should be provided to everyone without any cost.
In conclusion, water is a natural resource and it is the most basic need for every human. Therefore every human should get pure water from water supply at zero cost.To make this facility excessable to every home at free of charge , working bodies should make permanent policies to ensure this service.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that water should be provided free of charge, as seen in statements like 'I strongly agree with this statment'. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat limited and under-developed throughout the essay. While the writer touches on historical context and modern industrial pollution, these points lack sufficient extension and deep analysis to fully satisfy a higher standard. For instance, the transition from industrial pollution to the specific example of the writer's local city water supply is abrupt and lacks adequate connection to the broader argument of free distribution. To move towards a more comprehensive treatment of the task, the writer needs to present fully supported arguments that explore the socioeconomic implications of free water utilities rather than relying on brief assertions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays some overall organization with recognizable paragraphs and a basic introduction and conclusion. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical flow between sentences can feel disjointed. Cohesive devices are used minimally or somewhat repetitively, such as the frequent reliance on simple conjunctions and direct repetition of ideas. For example, referencing within paragraphs is occasionally unclear, such as the abrupt shift in the second body paragraph from industrial pollution to personal water bills without smooth transitional phrases. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion needs to be managed more effectively to guide the reader seamlessly from one point to the next. Improving the variety and accuracy of cohesive links would greatly enhance the overall structure of the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message of the essay. There are noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and word form that occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'requirment', 'statment', 'counteries', 'imortant', 'Durig', 'cunsumerism', 'polution', and 'excessable'. While the writer attempts some less common terms related to the topic, these lexical choices are marred by inaccurate spelling or inappropriate collocations. To reach a higher standard, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, ensuring precise word choice and correct spelling for both common and academic terms. Paying closer attention to suffixes, prefixes, and standard spelling patterns will significantly elevate the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside a few basic complex forms. Attempts at more complex sentence structures are often accompanied by frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and capitalization, such as lowercase 'i' at the beginning of sentences ('i strongly agree'), missing articles ('water was always and imortant asset'), and run-on structures. These frequent errors can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical patterns with greater accuracy, ensuring proper control over verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation conventions throughout the response.
