Student answer (Band 6.0)
The significance of clean water is undeniable. Having access to pure water is the basic right of every person. So, free of cost water supply should be provided to every home. I completely agree with this opinion because drinking contaminated water is very harmful for human health and it should be provided to citizens without any cost. In course of this essay I will give reasons to justify my stance.
To begin with, clean water is the fundamental right of every human around the globe as the unclean water is so dangerous for the health of humans. It can destroy the stomach of an individual. Different health problems such as cholera, typhoid, dysentary is sometimes caused by drinking this type of water. On the other hand, pure water improves the overall health of people and prevent them from a lot of diseases. For instance, according to a report of World Health Organization, 100 water filtaration plants have been created in Africa over the span of last 3 years which drastically had positive impacts on the health of locals. Consequently, people will stay away from diseases and will live a healthy and happy life.
So, the higher authorities should provide every home with free of cost supply of pure water. As it is a basic right of every member of society, so no money should be charged to avail this facility. Providing free of cost pure water supply to every home will improve the quality of life of every citizen. They will not have to pay exorbitant amount on getting a tanker of clean water. They will spend that saved money for the betterment of their life. For example, the provincial government of Punjab, Pakistan is currently planning to provide 1000 homes across Punjab with pure water. As a result, the quality of life of general populace will improve and will enjoy a happier life.
In conclusion, providing pure water to every individual around the globe should be the top priority of higher authorities because it will assist people in avoiding diseases and live without the stress of paying for a basic necessity like clean water.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, establishing a clear and consistent position throughout that clean water should be provided free of charge. The ideas presented are generally relevant, moving from health implications to financial benefits for households. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed or repetitive. For instance, the discussion on the World Health Organization report in Africa touches on filtration plants, but the link between this example and the argument for completely free municipal water supplies could be explored more deeply. Furthermore, the final body paragraph reiterates points about saving money and government planning in Punjab without introducing significant new extension. To reach a higher standard, the writer needs to fully develop all main arguments with richer, more specific supporting evidence rather than relying on generalised statements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear central topic running from introduction to conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, such as health benefits versus economic advantages. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, using markers like 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel somewhat mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'free of cost' and formulaic transitional phrases. Additionally, the progression within paragraphs occasionally loops back on itself rather than moving forward smoothly. To achieve a higher band, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible variety of cohesive relationships and ensure that referencing between sentences feels more natural and less formulaic.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating central ideas about public health and government responsibility. There are attempts to use less common items, such as 'exorbitant amount', 'general populace', and 'contaminated water'. However, the vocabulary is limited by noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form, alongside some spelling issues. For example, 'dysentary' is misspelled, and phrases like 'free of cost water supply' or 'avail this facility' show awkward phrasing and collocation. The writer also frequently repeats basic vocabulary items like 'pure water' and 'free of cost' rather than varying expressions. To improve lexical scores, the student needs to expand their control of less common lexical items, refine collocations, and eliminate spelling errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a willingness to construct varied clauses, such as conditional and reason clauses ('As it is a basic right of every member of society, so no money should be charged'). There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including article misuse ('the basic right', 'the unclean water'), preposition choices ('harmful for human health' instead of 'harmful to'), and awkward syntactic double-conjunction usage ('As... so...'). Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the reader can easily follow the argument. To move to a higher level of grammatical performance, the writer must increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and exercise greater control over articles and prepositions in varied structural patterns.
