Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially, presenting a limited and under-developed position on whether free water should be provided to every home. While the writer manages to state a partial agreement in the introduction, the development of ideas remains restricted and lacks sufficient depth. For instance, the mention of water management in China and India touches upon the prompt, but the arguments are vague, repetitive, and lack clear support or well-explained examples. The main ideas drift between personal health concerns, water purification technology, and government responsibility without fully exploring the core debate of public utility funding. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to present a clearer, more sustained position and extend their arguments with fully developed explanations and relevant, well-chosen examples rather than generalised statements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some basic organisation with paragraph breaks used to separate different thoughts, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. The relationship between sentences and paragraphs is frequently disjointed, and the transitional markers used are often awkward, such as starting paragraphs with 'At the initial stages' or 'On the other hand' in contexts where they do not logically fit. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, making the flow bumpy. For example, referencing pronouns and conjunctions are often unclear, such as in the sentence 'individual today are not cleaning their water area rather than they always arte trying to drink wrong water on It.' To improve, the writer needs to ensure logical sequencing of ideas from sentence to sentence and employ a wider range of cohesive devices more accurately to guide the reader smoothly through the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'investigating', 'innovation', and 'platforms', but these are often used with noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and form, which can cause some difficulty for the reader. There are frequent instances of inaccurate terminology, such as 'hamful water', 'danger material', 'wrong water', and spelling and morphological slips like 'paratially', 'healthly', 'morden', 'deppartments', 'dartiy', 'losts', 'negetive', and 'derinks'. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range and pay closer attention to correct word formation, spelling, and natural collocations, ensuring that vocabulary is used with precision to convey precise meanings without causing confusion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writer demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty for the reader. Issues span across incorrect verb tenses and forms, such as 'majority of many individuals are drinking', 'humans should have cleaned', and 'citizen always have drunk', as well as persistent problems with subject-verb agreement, missing or incorrect articles, and prepositional usage within grammatical patterns. Punctuation errors, such as comma splices and erratic capitalisation, also detract from clarity. To progress, the writer needs to increase sentence variety by mastering complex structures and reducing the density of basic grammatical errors through careful proofreading and practice with fundamental tense and agreement rules.
