Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the task only minimally, resulting in a low score for this criterion. While the writer touches upon the broad topic of water availability, the central prompt—whether every home should have a water supply provided free of charge—is not properly discussed or answered with a clear position. The introduction outlines an essay disclosure rather than taking a definitive stance on the prompt, and the body paragraphs wander into general issues of water management and purification methods rather than addressing the economic principle of free water provision. Ideas are limited and under-developed, relying on vague generalisations such as mentioning Mumbai Dharavi as a gigantic example without effectively connecting it back to the specific question of whether water ought to be free for all households.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation evident in the essay, with a clear attempt to structure the writing into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of argument, and the connections between ideas often feel disjointed. Cohesive devices are frequently inadequate, inaccurate, or overused, such as transitional phrases like 'To explore' and 'All this just because', which sound unnatural and do not link clauses smoothly. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs is frequently disrupted by awkward referencing and abrupt shifts in topic, such as moving from state water management directly to civilian actions without a clear transitional bridge.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for conveying basic ideas. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the text, such as 'ine' instead of 'one', 'elabore' instead of 'elaborate', 'clogz' instead of 'clogs', and 'iquality' instead of 'quality'. The student attempts to use some less common vocabulary, such as 'galvanization', 'pathogens', and 'proponents', but these attempts are frequently marred by inaccuracies in collocation and context. These lexical slips and spelling mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on basic sentence forms with frequent attempts at complex structures that are often faulty. There are persistent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns, such as 'human's fundamental rights confirms', 'many of the proponents believed', and 'the civilian can also contribute bya using'. Punctuation errors are also present, including comma splices and incorrect capitalization. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and mean that error-free sentences are rare.
