Student answer (Band 6.5)
There is an ongoing debate about basic human rights, environmental concerns and government services. Although access to clean water is undoubtedly a basic human right. I compeletely disagree with the notion that the supply of water should be totally free of cost and I will discuss all explanations in the subsequent pragraphs.
To commence with, providing water completely free of charge may encourage people to waste this valuable resources. If people do not have to pay for the amount of water they use, they may be less careful about their consumption, For example, some people might leave taps running or use too much water for washing cars and watering gardens. Therefore, charging a reasonable amount can encourage people to use water more reasonably.
In addition to it, providing a free water supplu to every househole would create a significant financial burden for governments. Water infreastructure, such as pipes, treatment plants and storage facilities, reuires regular maintenance and investment. For instance, governments need money to repair damaged pipes and ensure that drinking water remains safe. Instead of making water completely free for everyone, governments could provide free or subsidized water to low-income families while asking other households to pay a reasonable price.
In conclusion, I disgree with the idea that every home should recieve a completely free water supply. Although clean water is a basic human necessity, providing unlimited water free of charge could encourage people to waste it and even government will get a burden to maintain all the equipnemts needed for water supplies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear, consistent position throughout by arguing against free water supplies. The main ideas are extended and supported, such as the economic consequences of waste and the financial burden placed on governments for infrastructure maintenance. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise in parts, such as the broad assertion about people's behaviour regarding leaving taps running. The progression of ideas is logical and adequately covers the prompt's requirements, though deeper exploration of alternative subsidisation methods would elevate this section further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are coherently linked, with appropriate sequencing in the body paragraphs starting with 'To commence with' and 'In addition to it'. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, though referencing and transitions occasionally feel a bit formulaic or slightly mechanical, such as the concluding summary. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each main point clearly assigned to its own paragraph to guide the reader through the writer's argument from waste prevention to government funding.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating sufficient range to discuss complex issues like infrastructure and government subsidies. The writer attempts less common vocabulary items such as 'financial burden', 'infrastructure', and 'subsidized', though some errors in word form, choice, and spelling emerge—notably 'compeletely', 'resources' (instead of resource), 'infreastructure', 'reuires', 'househole', 'disgree', 'recieve', and 'equipnemts'. These lexical slips and spelling errors occasionally surface, but they do not impede communication, placing the response squarely within the expected band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing incorporates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures like 'If people do not have to pay...' and concessive clauses starting with 'Although'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, most notably a sentence fragment in the introduction ('Although access to clean water is undoubtedly a basic human right. I compeletely disagree...'), where a dependent clause is punctuated as a full sentence. However, other complex structures are handled reasonably well, and the errors in punctuation and sentence boundaries rarely impede communication for the reader.
