Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by stating an agreement with the idea that clean water should be free, presenting limited and under-developed ideas. While the writer mentions the necessity of water for daily life and health benefits such as preventing cholera and typhoid, these points lack deep extension or concrete examples from personal experience. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 177 words, falling significantly short of the 250-word minimum. To reach a higher band, the writer must fully develop all ideas with extended explanations and examples, while ensuring the minimum word count is satisfied.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a discernible introduction and body paragraphs, though progression is sometimes hindered by abrupt transitions and a lack of cohesive devices. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas can be disjointed, such as combining community supply methods and sanitation measures into a single body paragraph. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and transitional phrases like 'To begin with' and 'Futhermore' are used mechanically. To improve, the writer needs to ensure smoother logical progression between sentences and paragraphs, utilizing a wider and more natural range of cohesive devices without repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, featuring basic terms alongside attempts at less common vocabulary such as 'expatiate', 'commodity', and 'hypovolemic shock'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling, such as 'bole whole' instead of 'borehole', 'uncleaned' instead of 'unclean', and 'qith' instead of 'with'. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips occasionally cause slight strain for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the student should expand their lexical range, ensure correct word formation, and minimize spelling mistakes by proofreading their writing carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and capitalization, including missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences and after periods, incorrect pronoun capitalization such as 'i agree', and comma splices like 'human right,For this reason'. Additionally, subject-verb agreement issues and article omissions are present, such as 'A clean water promote'. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer must work on mastering basic sentence boundaries, punctuation rules, and maintaining grammatical accuracy across complex sentence structures.
