Student answer (Band 5.5)

Clean water is a basic human right. But sometimes it is argued that clean water should have been free of charge for every home. In my opinion, I strongly disagree with this, because as recent studies shows the clean water is become very limited for human to use and also the business which is standing on water filteration and selling could get collapsed.

Initially, everyone deserve to drink clean water there is no doubt about that, but make the water supply free of cost I think it could caused alot of problems than solution for our future generation. Furthermore, as the recent studies shows that the water on earth which is drinkable is becomming limited as the time passes by, by declaring free water supply can takes a huge toll at the future. For example, if water becomes free, the value of water will decrease and people will use the water for every household work and levels of water will drop eventually and cost in a long term.

On the other hand, for businesses the water business will collapse and the economy of a country which is standing on these big businesses will drop becuase they provides a huge chunk in an economy. For example, If we talk about the brand Nestle, Aquafina these brands are doing everything to provides us clean water, we can debate on the cost of the water, but as we all know that limited clean water available on earth remains low, so we have to pay more to these brands to avail clean water which is necessity for a human to live.

In conclusion, clean water is a basic right for every human being, but the debate of allowing every home to get free water supply, I strongly disagree, because of the studies and researches shows that mostly country will get dry in decades, we have to pay to use limited water. And also in the busines ponit of view it will effect mostly water supply businesses as well the the country's economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position that clean water should not be provided free of charge to every home. The main ideas are relevant, discussing resource scarcity and the economic impact on water treatment businesses like Nestle and Aquafina. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others; for example, the argument regarding the economic importance of bottled water brands is introduced but remains somewhat simplistic and lacks broader contextualisation about public utility economics. This imbalance keeps the task response firmly at the current level, where some supporting points are under-developed or touch upon the prompt in a limited way.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct arguments, such as environmental concerns in the second body paragraph and commercial implications in the third. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, with transitions like 'Initially' and 'On the other hand' feeling slightly rigid or used inappropriately for the context. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as when pronouns like 'these' or 'it' do not clearly point back to a distinct antecedent, disrupting the smooth logical progression between sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'filtration', 'scarcity', and 'economy'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'business which is standing on', 'make the water supply free of cost', and 'busines ponit of view'. Additionally, several spelling and word-form errors occur, including 'becomming', 'alot', and 'effect' instead of 'affect'. While these lexical inadequacies do not completely impede communication, they reflect a limited precision in style and vocabulary control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though the structural control is limited. There are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, tenses, and article usage, such as 'studies shows the clean water is become very limited', 'everyone deserve', and 'mostly country will get dry'. Punctuation and subject-verb agreement issues also persist throughout the text. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, the presence of frequent grammatical inaccuracies in basic and complex structures means the writing does not achieve a higher level of grammatical control.
