Student answer (Band 5.0)
Access to pure water is a basic human right. Therefore, every individual should have free water supply at their home.
From my perspective, I strongly believe that every home should have free water supply. People have to pay for their water bill which I feel like is completely injustice to the citizens. It's a natural ingredient which should be available for everyone. But govenment is charging money from people for water supply. There are a lot of poor or low middle class people who cannot afford the bill of water supply. Thus, they don't get water supply at home, for which, they cannot use water. Morever, people suffer from dehydration and many diseases because of the lack of water. Furthermore, this is so unhealthy and unhygienic for people not to use water, wash their hands or take bath. For example, there are huge amount of people who lives in slums and they barely have water supply at their home. As a result, they can't take bath or drink hygienic water. That's why, they suffer from various diseases and a large number of babies or elders die from dehydration. Which also increases the death number each year numerously.
Consequently, the government should take necessary steps regarding this and supply water for free for every single individuals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
First, please note that the response contains only 207 words, which fails to meet the minimum requirement of 250 words (with 8 words copied directly from the prompt excluded). Regarding the task, you present a clear position that water should be provided for free, and you touch upon relevant ideas such as health consequences and the situation in slums. However, your ideas remain limited and under-developed, addressing the prompt only partially. For instance, you mention that low-income people cannot afford bills and suffer from diseases, but you do not explore broader economic or infrastructural impacts. To reach higher bands, you need to extend your arguments with fully elaborated examples and insights rather than relying on brief, repetitive statements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
Your writing shows some basic organisation with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion, but there is a lack of clear overall progression. Paragraphing is weak because almost all of your main arguments are lumped into a single, massive second paragraph rather than being broken down into logical sub-points. Furthermore, your use of cohesive devices is repetitive and sometimes inaccurate, such as starting multiple sentences with 'Furthermore', 'Morever', and 'That's why', or using fragmented structures like 'Which also increases the death number each year numerously.' To improve, you should group related ideas into distinct paragraphs and use a wider, more natural variety of transitional phrases to guide the reader smoothly through your arguments.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a limited, fairly basic range of vocabulary that is only minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices that stem from translation or poor collocation, such as referring to water as a 'natural ingredient' instead of a 'natural resource', writing 'low middle class people' instead of 'lower-middle-class people', and using 'the death number' instead of 'the death toll'. You also misuse adverbs, as seen in 'numerously'. To achieve a higher score, you should attempt a broader range of less common lexical items, pay closer attention to natural collocations, and ensure greater precision in word choice.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Your grammar displays a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic compound patterns. When you attempt more complex structures, they are often faulty, such as in the sentence 'People have to pay for their water bill which I feel like is completely injustice to the citizens,' which lacks necessary articles and relative pronouns. There are frequent errors in articles, prepositions, and plurals, such as 'bill of water supply' instead of 'water bills', and 'take bath' instead of 'take a bath'. Punctuation and sentence boundary errors also occur, such as sentence fragments starting with relative pronouns. To progress, you need to demonstrate better control over complex sentence forms and eliminate frequent basic errors.
