Student answer (Band 5.5)
Water is basic requirement for human life. Therefore access to clean water to humans is very crucial. Water supply must be provided to every home free of cost. I agree to this point because if water is costly to humans, it would become very difficult for humans to live peacefully.
Humans use water in many ways, firstly water is very important for our health. If we are not properly hydrated we wont be able to work or earn to live life. There is a very famous saying '"Health is Wealth" which means if we are not healthy enough we wont be work for our lives. Also water is consumed in cleaning purposes. If water is not clean enough to consume internally in our body humans will get sick and wont be able to do anything. That is why it is very important to have access to clean water but free of cost.
Government should provide this facility to every home even to those who are poor, those belong from a poor family. Many people in this world earn for their family to live a good life. Free of cost access to clean water will be a relieve to those people who hardly fullfill their basic needs for living. Also in many countries lack of dams results in wastage of water, if proper dams are made rain water can be utilize in making clean drinking water which should be free of cost. This initiative should be taken by countries which are under developed and can not afford clean water access to homes fre of cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing that clean water should be provided free of charge. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as the importance of health and the role of governments and infrastructure like dams, satisfying the requirements for a central band level. However, some ideas remain under-developed or briefly stated rather than fully extended. For instance, the point about dams and water wastage is touched upon in the final paragraph, but it lacks specific explanation or direct connection to how funding free water supply would operate. To move towards higher bands, every main idea needs deeper elaboration and clearer supporting examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a discernible progression of ideas from health benefits to government responsibility. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct themes, moving from personal health impacts to broader infrastructural considerations. Nevertheless, cohesion at times feels mechanical or repetitive, with simple transitions and repetitive phrasing such as 'free of cost' and 'clean water'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in the phrasing regarding those 'who belong from a poor family'. To achieve a higher level of cohesion, the writer should employ a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure smoother transitions between sentences and paragraphs without relying on formulaic links.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for tackling the prompt, successfully incorporating everyday terms related to health, basic needs, and government services. There are noticeable lexical limitations and errors, such as 'cleaning purposes' instead of cleansing or cleaning, 'relieve' instead of relief, and 'fullfill' which contains a spelling error. Attempts at less common vocabulary are minimal, and the repetition of basic phrases constrains the range. Communication is not seriously impeded by these slips, but to reach a superior band, the writer must demonstrate greater precision in word choice, better control over word forms, and an expanded repertoire of less common lexical items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as conditional clauses ('if water is costly to humans, it would become...'). There are some errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including missing articles ('Water is basic requirement', 'lack of dams'), incorrect prepositions ('belong from'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('wont be work'). Despite these errors, the sentences remain largely understandable and rarely impede overall communication. To progress further, the writer needs to increase the variety of complex structures used accurately and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical slips, particularly regarding articles and prepositional patterns.
