Student answer (Band 4.0)
Acess to clean and clear water is undoubtedly one of the fundamental necessities of human life. while some people argue that every houeshold should be provided with a free water supply because, it is a basic human right, I Disagree with this view believe that although everyone should have access to safe and clean water, charging a reasonable fee is necessary to prevent wastage and maintain an efficient water-supply system.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response fails to meet the length requirement, as it contains only seventy words, which is well below the minimum of two hundred and fifty words. Because the text stops abruptly after the introductory sentence, the task is addressed only minimally. While the writer manages to state a clear position on the prompt regarding whether water should be free, the ideas are severely underdeveloped and lack any body paragraphs, supporting arguments, or examples. To improve, the writer must ensure the full length is achieved and develop arguments with supporting evidence and examples across multiple paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response consists of a single, long sentence acting as an introduction, meaning there is no opportunity to demonstrate paragraphing or logical progression. Some basic cohesive devices are present, such as 'while' and 'although', but referencing and overall organization are extremely limited due to the extreme brevity of the text. To move to a higher band, the writer must organize ideas into clear paragraphs with distinct central topics and use a wider range of cohesive devices smoothly to guide the reader through a well-structured argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, with attempts at appropriate terms such as 'fundamental necessities', 'reasonable fee', and 'water-supply system'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'Acess' instead of 'access' and 'houeshold' instead of 'household', alongside a run-on sentence structure that impacts clarity. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to expand their lexical range, incorporate less common vocabulary with precision, and eliminate basic spelling mistakes through careful proofreading.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The text attempts a complex sentence structure containing subordinate clauses introduced by words like 'while' and 'although'. However, control over punctuation and grammar is weak, featuring a major run-on sentence error and a comma splice before 'because, it is'. There is also a missing verb phrase in the clause 'I Disagree with this view believe'. To improve, the writer must break long, convoluted sentences into shorter, accurate structures and ensure correct punctuation, particularly around clauses and introductory phrases.
