Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially, attempting to discuss whether free clean water should be provided to every home. A position is presented as you state you partially agree, and you provide some relevant ideas such as health benefits and economic consequences. However, these ideas remain limited and under-developed. For example, the point about health and the mention of a 1989 survey are vague and not fully integrated to support your stance. Similarly, the economic arguments lack specific elaboration. To move to a higher band, you would need to extend and fully develop your arguments with clear explanations and relevant examples that logically support your position throughout the entire essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates some overall organisation with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, though the final paragraphs are incomplete and fragmented. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the repetitive use of transitions or loose linking between sentences. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making the flow somewhat mechanical. To achieve a higher level of coherence and cohesion, you should ensure that each paragraph has a distinct central topic, ideas progress logically from one to the next, and cohesive devices are employed flexibly and accurately to guide the reader smoothly through your argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about water supply and health. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the text, such as 'dfferent' instead of 'different', 'enteirly', 'humen', 'dependant', 'ucleaned', 'detremental', 'plantey', and 'necassity'. These spelling and lexical slips occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve your lexical score, you need to expand your range of vocabulary by using less common lexical items with greater precision and pay closer attention to correct spelling and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response shows a very limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are numerous grammatical errors involving articles, subject-verb agreement, prepositions, and verb forms, such as 'clean water is considered as basic necessity', 'peoples have dfferent views', 'Our gut health mostly affected', and 'pipelines will held all over country'. These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher band, you should aim to produce a wider variety of complex sentence structures with good control, reducing the frequency of basic grammatical mistakes and ensuring that your sentences are mostly error-free.
