Student answer (Band 6.0)
Every individual has a right to access clean water, as water is required for most of the routine works and essential for human survival. Although water is a basic need for a living, it should not be provided free of charge in my opinion as people do not value the imporatnce of water and eventually it causes many envirnmental problems.
Water, food, and shelter are the basic neccessities for human survival. Therefore, accessibility of pristine water is the fundamental human right. For instance, we require water in various daily tasks such as cleaning, washing, cooking, drinking, etc. Furthermore, it is scientifically proven that the human body consists of 70% water. hence, it is also needed for humans to survive and without water, it is not possible.
however water is an important part of our day today life, it should not be provided for free. As per human tendency , we neglect the significance of the most fundamental needs if its given free of cost. Most of the people would take this for granted and may eventually forget the importance of water in the furture. Furthermore, if people take this access for granted they may waste it recklessly which results into scarcity of water and subsequently creates various environmental problems in the field of agriculture, marine life and so on. In my opinion, water should be provided at minimum wage that everyone can afford but not for free as it reduces its value.
In conclusion, water is the fundamental need of every individual, as it is required for various day to day activities and a crucial element of human body. I disagree with the viewpoint that a water supply should be free of charge as it is imoprtant for humans to act as responsible citizens by giving enough value to water as per the saying "water is life.", while water scarcity can lead to various environmental damages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position that clean water is a basic human right but should not be provided free of charge to prevent waste and environmental issues. The main ideas are generally relevant, covering the health necessity of water alongside the economic and ecological arguments against making it free. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others; for instance, the assertion that free water leads to problems in marine life and agriculture is introduced rapidly without sufficient extension or concrete examples. To reach the next level, the writer needs to fully develop all supporting arguments with deeper explanations and specific real-world illustrations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance maintained throughout the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct arguments, such as the acknowledgement of water as a human right versus the counterargument regarding pricing and conservation. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. Transitions like 'however water is an important part' and punctuation issues disrupt smooth progression, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the vague pronoun use in 'if its given free of cost.' To improve, the writer should employ a wider and more natural variety of cohesive devices while ensuring punctuation and sentence links are handled with greater precision.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the writer's perspective on water accessibility and conservation. The response attempts less common lexical items, such as 'fundamental necessities', 'pristine water', and 'scarcity', demonstrating an effort to vary language. Nevertheless, there are several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the overall precision, including 'imporatnce', 'envirnmental', 'neccessities', and 'imoprtant'. Additionally, phrasing such as 'provided at minimum wage that everyone can afford' lacks natural collocation. To move higher, the student must eliminate spelling slips and refine word choices to ensure greater accuracy and stylistic appropriateness.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as conditional clauses and concessive clauses like 'Although water is a basic need for a living, it should not be provided free of charge'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede communication. Examples include missing capitalization and punctuation at the beginning of sentences and clauses, such as 'survival. Therefore', 'hence, it is also needed', and 'however water is an important part'. Articles and prepositions also show occasional lapses, as seen in 'day today life'. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free sentences and ensure meticulous control over punctuation and capitalization.
