Student answer (Band 6.5)
Water is the life of everyones life to live. In all the life water has a more importance such as human, animal and many more. Access to clean water is a basic human need, while some think every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge. I was largly agree for this statment.
To embark with, The primary reason for making water free is that it is a basic human right, not a commodity to be traded for profit. When access to water is tied to a person's financial status, low-income families are disproportionately harmed. They may be forced to ration their water usage or rely on contaminated, unsafe sources, leading to severe outbreaks of preventable diseases. By ensuring free access to all citizens, society can eradicate waterborne illnesses and drastically reduce public healthcare burdens. A healthy population is more productive, meaning that free water ultimately benefits the community as a whole.
Moreover, providing essential utilities is the core duty of any civilized government. Just as primary education, public roads, and emergency medical services are funded through national taxation in many progressive nations, residential water systems should be treated as a collective public investment. Governments can fund the maintenance of water infrastructure by reallocating national budgets or utilizing progressive tax revenues. This shifts the financial burden away from vulnerable individuals and ensures that society collectively covers the cost of a resource that no human can survive without.
In conclusion, because clean water is a basic prerequisite for life, it should never be restricted by an individual’s ability to pay. Providing free household water is a moral obligation that safeguards public health and promotes social equality, and it should be funded universally through public taxation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, stating that clean water should be provided free of charge. Ideas are extended and supported, such as discussing the impact on low-income families and public health, which aligns with the descriptor for addressing all parts with a clear position. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise in the opening statement where the introduction is somewhat repetitive and contains a few formulaic phrases. The main body paragraphs offer relevant arguments regarding economic equity and government responsibility, though the development of these points stops short of the fully elaborated extension required for higher bands. Note that 21 words copied from the prompt were not counted towards the overall length.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear central topic running through each paragraph. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating the introduction, two distinct body arguments, and a concise conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transitional phrase 'To embark with' is unnatural and non-standard, and referencing is not always completely smooth. Cohesive devices are used to signal the progression of ideas, such as 'Moreover' and 'In conclusion', but the overall flow between sentences occasionally feels slightly rigid rather than seamlessly integrated, placing the response firmly in this band.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'commodity', 'disproportionately', 'infrastructure', and 'prerequisite'. However, there are notable word-choice and collocation errors that prevent a higher score. For example, the opening sentence contains awkward phrasing ('Water is the life of everyones life to live'), and the phrase 'I was largly agree for this statment' contains multiple lexical and grammatical inaccuracies in word choice. Spelling errors such as 'largly' also occur. While communication is not impeded, these inaccuracies reflect a vocabulary range that struggles with precision and naturalness.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures appropriately in sentences like 'When access to water is tied to a person's financial status, low-income families are disproportionately harmed.' There are, however, several errors in grammar and punctuation. The opening sentence contains severe grammatical issues ('Water is the life of everyones life to live'), and the thesis statement includes tense confusion ('I was largly agree'). Other minor structural slips appear throughout the essay. Fortunately, these errors in grammar rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the argument despite the lack of consistent control over complex structures.
