Student answer (Band 6.0)
Water is a necessity of every household. It is believed that since it is a basic human right everyone should have access to pure water without needing to pay any cost for it. I largely disagree with this because in order to supply water to every household high maintained infrastructure is needed. People don't understand the blessing until it become scarce.
It could be argued that humans cannot live a single day without water. It is also a basic necessity for human to drink it daily. Furthermore, water is used to serve distinct tasks such as it could be used for preparing meals, clean up things, to cool off hot things. . If water is not easily accessible, it could pose several challenges that would be difficult to maneuver through in our daily life. For example, people that are living below the poverty line may not be able to afford the cost.
However, I would argue that supplying water to every home requires a large infrastructure which would also require a maintenance every now and then. Building a large infrastructure requires money and government is the only largest institute that has the power and authority to invest in these type of infrastructure, therefore paying little amount of money in return to the convenience being provided should not be a problem.
A further advantage is that whenever people find that things doesn't cost them anything, they try to exploit those benefits or doesn't value them at all. People only care about the things when it becomes scarce. Therefore for people to realize that it is a blessing that they are able to use the water, it shouldn't be provided free of charge.
In conclusion, I largely disagree with providing water to every household for free of charge. Developing large infrastructure and it's maintenance requires high cost and for people to value the blessing of water they should be charged for it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you largely oppose free household water. You address both the human need for water and the costs of supplying it, and the infrastructure and maintenance argument is relevant and reasonably explained. This meets the task well, while showing some of the fuller development expected at the next level. However, the poverty example is not fully connected to your position: you note that poorer people may struggle to pay, but do not explain how your proposal would protect their access. The claim that people waste free resources is also asserted rather than supported with a specific example or explanation. Develop these points and acknowledge how affordability could be balanced with funding infrastructure.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction states your view, the body paragraphs present need, infrastructure costs and the value of charging, and the conclusion restates your position. Paragraphing helps the reader follow this progression. You also use linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “However,” and “In conclusion.” At times, though, the connections feel mechanical or the reference is unclear. For example, “It could be argued” introduces the case for access, but the paragraph then shifts to affordability without clearly linking that point to your disagreement. The final body paragraph repeats the idea that people value scarce things. Use clearer transitions between opposing considerations and explain how each example supports your central argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including “basic human right,” “infrastructure,” “maintenance,” “poverty line,” and “exploit.” These choices allow you to discuss both access and the practical costs of water provision. There are also several imprecise or unnatural expressions that limit flexibility: “high maintained infrastructure,” “serve distinct tasks,” and “the only largest institute” do not convey your meaning naturally. “Pure water” is understandable, though “clean water” would match the task more precisely. Some repetition of “water,” “people,” and “blessing” also makes the argument less varied. Aim for accurate collocations and more precise terms, such as “costly infrastructure,” “perform a range of tasks,” and “government authority.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a conditional sentence (“If water is not easily accessible…”) and clauses linked with “because” and “therefore.” Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. For example, “until it become scarce” needs subject–verb agreement and a consistent verb form; “things doesn't cost” has an agreement error; and “a maintenance” uses an unnecessary article. The sentence beginning “Furthermore” also contains a punctuation problem, with an extra full stop after “things.” Longer sentences sometimes join several ideas without clear grammatical control, particularly the sentence about government investment and payment. Check agreement, articles and sentence boundaries, and divide complex points where needed.
