Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is widely argued that clean water should be provided to every home without any charge, as it is a basic necessity for every human being. This essay disagrees with this statement because excessive usage of water can be wastage and as well as creates financial problem for the government.

Firstly, providing clean water without any cost can be waste because it is a human nature when they get anything free, they don not realize its importance. People may open the taps, while doing housechores work such as washing clothes, utensils and cars. For example, an individual wash his garden four times in a day without a need for it. When they find unlimited amount of water, they just use it without any reason. Therefore, they may not find the real value of every drop of water until they may know the significance of it.

Secondly, free of charge water can cause financial burdens to the government because expensive machines will be required to clean the water. They may spend a laege amount of money to purchase the pipes to provide healthy water to everyone. For example, a government needs water sewerage machine to remove all the bacterias and built the pipes in soil, so it may cost heavy. That cost would compromise the other sectors such as education and healthcare because people will utilize water wisely when they pay for it but they will find difficult to access these facilities.

In conclusion, although water is a basic human necessity, I believe it should not be provided free of cost because people people can use it extra without its need and it also cause financial challenge for government.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you disagree with free household water, and the conclusion restates this view. Both main reasons are relevant to the question: you argue that free access may encourage waste and that supplying treated water creates costs for government. The examples of leaving taps running and investing in treatment equipment help illustrate these points. However, the development is uneven. The waste argument is explained more fully, while the financial argument would benefit from clearer detail about why charging users is a fair or effective way to meet those costs. The claim that people will use water wisely when they pay is asserted rather than supported. More precise explanation and a brief acknowledgement of access for low-income households would make the response more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around separate reasons, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. Within the paragraphs, examples generally follow the claims they illustrate. Some connections, however, are mechanical or unclear. In the second body paragraph, the move from the cost of pipes and treatment to education and healthcare is abrupt, and “because people will utilize water wisely when they pay for it” does not clearly explain how this follows from the preceding point. The repeated use of “they” also makes some references less precise. Use clearer links between cause and consequence, and vary transitions so the organisation feels more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “basic necessity,” “financial burdens,” “bacterias,” and “healthcare.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as describing water treatment and household use. However, noticeable word-choice, collocation, word-form, and spelling problems limit precision: “can be waste” is not a natural expression, “housechores work” is awkward, “a laege amount” contains a spelling error, and “water sewerage machine” does not clearly name the equipment intended. Repetition of “free,” “water,” and “cost” also narrows the range. Aim for accurate topic collocations and check spelling and word forms; this will make your meaning clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a conditional idea beginning “when they get anything free.” The overall meaning is usually understandable, but errors in sentence construction and agreement recur. For example, “an individual wash his garden” needs subject–verb agreement, while “it also cause financial challenge” has agreement and article problems. The sentence beginning “Therefore, they may not find…” combines modal forms awkwardly, and “people will find difficult to access these facilities” is missing a grammatical element after “find.” Some sentences also run together several ideas, reducing control. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and complete clause patterns, while keeping complex sentences manageable.
