Student answer (Band 6.5)

Water has been an essential part in human survival and growth. It is to my belief then that it is rightfully good to have a free source of water in every household.

First, an unrestricted use of water is everyone's right. Having an access to a clean and free water helps a community thrive. For instance, in other countries like United States, they offer a pottable water to every household's faucet or even in the public places. This growing country have understood that it is a basic need for every human being and must be given freely for people to consume. This act often signifies a good governance that account for the welfare of their people. It also indicates transparency in the allocation of the citizens' money for the benefit of everyone.

Moreover, free water usage will help families to cut down from the significant cost of monthly expenses compounded from other factors like electricity, mortages, and maintenance. This will allow the people to save up more money and even prioritize other basic necessities like healthy food for the family and medicine for the sick loved ones. In addition, ensuring an unrestricted access to a quality water will help people to recognize that they are being taken care of the states.

In conclusion, I agree that every home is entitled to have a free access to a safe and quality water. The idea is not just about saving up more but acknowledging that the government is being responsive to the basic needs of the community.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the opening and conclusion: you agree that households should receive water free of charge. You give relevant reasons, including the right to basic necessities and the relief this could provide to family budgets, and the example of household tap water in the United States helps illustrate your point. This meets the task well, but the support is uneven: the claim that free water demonstrates good governance and transparent use of citizens’ money is asserted rather than explained, and the example is general rather than specific. To develop the response further, clarify what “free” means in practice and address a possible concern, such as the cost of maintaining water systems, before explaining why your position remains preferable.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present supporting reasons, and the conclusion restates your position. The progression from water as a right to household savings is easy to follow, and signposts such as “First,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” make the organisation clear. Some links between claims could be more explicit. For example, the move from free water to “good governance” and “transparency” is not fully explained, so the reader must infer the connection. The second body paragraph also combines financial savings with the idea of feeling cared for by the state. Grouping related points and adding a sentence that explains how each example supports the main claim would make cohesion more flexible and precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “basic need,” “monthly expenses,” “basic necessities,” and “allocation,” which helps communicate your main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “unrestricted access” and “responsive to the basic needs.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “pottable water” should be “potable water,” “cut down from the significant cost” is awkward, and “quality water” would be more naturally expressed as “clean, safe water.” “This growing country” is also unclear in context. Aim for precise, natural combinations rather than adding formal-sounding words; this will make your argument clearer while retaining an appropriate academic tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the sentence beginning “This will allow the people to save up more money and even prioritize…” and the clause “that account for the welfare of their people.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors reduce accuracy. For example, “This growing country have understood” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “Having an access” uses an unnecessary article. In “ensuring an unrestricted access to a quality water,” the article and noun forms are also problematic. The opening phrase “It is to my belief then that” is grammatically awkward. Review agreement, article use with uncountable nouns, and sentence phrasing, then proofread for punctuation and grammatical patterns. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
