Student answer (Band 6.0)

Access to clean water is a basic need for a human beings because they cannot survive even 7 days without drinking it. Therefore, clean water must be supplied to every household, despite of their standard of living. But most people argue that the clean water must be supplied free of cost. In my opinion, people become careless when they get anything free of cost.

It is not possible to provide free water because it can burdened the management in terms of finances. However, they can introduce a quota for the families that have low monthly income. In this way, those families care it while using clean water to maintain their usage below the threshold. In parallel, authorities must maintain a strict check and balance for the usage of water in order to avoid over use of water. Commercial car washing stations must be closely monitored by the relevant authorities to prevent water wastage.

On the contrary, some people argue that if government supplies free clean water to all, the quality of water will not be same as compared to the priced water. They oppose this idea by giving justification that nothing is free in this world, whether you pay money for it or have to earn it. They think that when something is available for free, eventually the consumers are the product. For example, using social media is free across the world, to promote their business growth by connecting consumers and suppliers.

At the end, I must say that the government should take this initiative atleast for low earning families to provide ease in their daily household. Similarly, as a community we should also take necessary measures to prevent water wastage because many parts of the world is struggling to get clean water supply.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is discernible: you reject free water for everyone but support assistance for low-income households, especially in the conclusion. You also offer relevant points about public finances, water use, and monitoring commercial car washes. This meets the task well overall, and the practical examples help make your argument specific. However, the opening says water should reach every household regardless of living standard, while the conclusion narrows free provision to low earners; clarify whether you support a universal basic allowance or targeted support. The point that free water would reduce quality is presented as an opposing view but is not examined or answered, and the social-media comparison does not clearly establish the effect of water pricing. Develop and connect these ideas more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting considerations, and a concluding recommendation. The progression from affordability to water conservation is generally understandable, and phrases such as “However” and “For example” help signal relationships. Some connections are nevertheless mechanical or unclear. “On the contrary” introduces another viewpoint, but the paragraph does not clearly show how it contrasts with the preceding argument. The social-media example also interrupts the discussion of water quality rather than supporting it. In addition, “In parallel” is an awkward transition into regulation, and the conclusion introduces community responsibility without developing it earlier. Use clearer topic sentences and make each example directly support the paragraph’s main claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including relevant terms such as “quota,” “threshold,” “authorities,” and “water wastage.” These choices show an attempt to discuss policy and conservation rather than relying only on basic vocabulary. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise, however: “care it while using clean water” does not express the intended idea naturally, and “strict check and balance” is not the usual phrase in this context. “Free of cost” is repeated, while “clean water” and “water” recur frequently. The phrase about consumers being “the product” is also not clearly connected to the argument. Aim for precise collocations and vary repeated terms, for example by using “subsidised supply,” “household consumption,” or “conserve water” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including a reason clause (“because they cannot survive…”) and conditional phrasing (“when they get anything free”). Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “it can burdened the management,” which needs a correctly formed verb, and “many parts of the world is struggling,” where the subject and verb do not agree. There are also problems with articles and prepositions in “a human beings” and “despite of their standard of living.” The sentence beginning “For example, using social media…” is incomplete or poorly attached to the preceding sentence, making its relationship unclear. Review verb forms, agreement, and sentence boundaries, then proofread complex sentences to ensure each has a clear main clause.
