Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people argue that clean water is essential for every human being and it should be provided to everyone without any payment. I strongly agree with this statement and suggest that government must pay attention to this matter.

First of all, we know that the core reason for which life is possible on earth is the presence of water. Every human being on earth has equal right to have access to such blessing of nature. It should be the responsibility of government of every country to take actions for supplying pure water to everyone. Availability of pure and clean water should be the part of development programs of every nation.

Additionally, in this growing world, industrialization has polluted the natural water resources which used to be a source of clean water in previous times. There are still many communities in rural areas which do not have the facility of clean water. Similarly the rising cases of hepatitis C show the consumption of polluted water. Therefore, higher authorities must tackle this problem wisely and timely. For instance, in Pakistan the level of poverty is rising day by day and people are forced to live in slums. Similarly the percentage of lower middle class is also high in Pakistan. Therefore, everyone cannot afford to install filtration plants. I suggest the government should take practical steps to install filters in schools and colleges and must provide pure water to every home by pipelines. Having clean water to drink is the very basic right of people and they should be given this right without any charges.

To conclude with, I agree that having clean and pure water is the right of every citizen and government should take steps to facilitate them without charging a penny.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you agree that clean water should be provided without charge. You give relevant reasons, including water’s importance to life, pollution of natural sources, and the difficulty poorer households face in paying for filtration. The Pakistan example and proposal to install filters in schools and supply homes through pipelines make the response more specific. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the reference to hepatitis C does not clarify how it supports the argument about contaminated water, and the discussion of national development programmes remains general. To strengthen the response, explain the link between each example and free household provision, and develop how the proposed measures could be funded or implemented.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, the body develops supporting reasons, and the conclusion restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all,” “Additionally,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the argument. The progression from water’s importance to pollution and affordability is generally logical. At times, however, linking feels mechanical, and repeated use of “Similarly” does not always show a clear relationship between the ideas it connects. The long body paragraph also combines several points—rural access, disease, poverty, filtration, and government action—so their relationships are not always easy to track. Use more precise transitions and consider separating the affordability example and proposed solutions into a distinct paragraph.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “natural water resources,” “industrialization,” “filtration plants,” and “rural areas,” which helps communicate the main argument. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “higher authorities must tackle this problem.” Some word choices and collocations are less natural or imprecise, however: “the core reason for which life is possible” is awkward, “the percentage of lower middle class is also high” is unclear, and “without charging a penny” is more conversational than the rest of the essay. Repetition of “pure and clean water” also limits variety. Aim for precise, natural collocations and avoid using formal-sounding phrases when a simpler expression is clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including relative clauses (“communities in rural areas which do not have the facility”) and conditional-style reasoning about affordability. Most sentences communicate your meaning, and errors rarely prevent understanding. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain. For example, “government must pay attention” needs an article or plural form, while “the part of development programs” needs an article before “part.” In “every human being … has equal right,” the singular count noun also needs an article. The sentence beginning “For instance, in Pakistan…” runs into several ideas joined by “Similarly” and “Therefore,” making its structure less controlled. Review articles and sentence boundaries, and vary complex structures while keeping each sentence focused.
