Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays, access to clean water has become a issue. Some people believe that every home should has water supply free of charge, while other think otherwise. In my opinion, I believe that clean, free water sbould be available in every home. Access to clean water prevents getting diseases; moreover, charging for water isn't ethical as it's a basic human right.
Throughout history, we have seen contaminated water spread lots of diseases causing epidemics. Medical professional advise to care about hygiene and the use of clean water. Therefore, societies should be a to provide access to clean water in every home. In my experience, i have gotten sick from drinking of my sick friend's bottle of water, which taught me a lesson about hygiene.
Furthermore, water is the source of life, making it a basic human right or need. Profitting from water isn't ethical because for societies to thrive and grow, authorities should take the responsibility to provide the basic resources for human development. This widespread support form the authorities would boost the encomony, yielding the results they seek without resulting in the need to profit from access to clean, free water.
Some people may argue that providing clean free water would lead to wasting one of our scarce resources, but i believe if governments raised awareness about how scarce and important water is, we can reap the benefits of using clean, free water in addition to not wasting it.
In conclusion, clean water

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You take a clear position in favour of free household water and give relevant reasons, including disease prevention, the human-rights argument and a response to concerns about waste. However, the response addresses the task only partially because several points are asserted rather than explained or supported. For example, the personal anecdote about becoming ill after drinking from a friend’s bottle does not clearly show that charging for water is unethical or that public provision is necessary. The economic claim that free water would “boost the economy” also needs a clearer explanation. The conclusion is unfinished (“In conclusion, clean water”), so the essay does not provide a complete final summary. The response is also seven words below the required minimum. Develop each main reason with a specific explanation or example, and complete the conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for supporting reasons, a counterargument and a concluding paragraph. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “Therefore” and “In conclusion” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, progression between some ideas is not consistently clear. The personal example about a friend’s bottle interrupts the broader point about contaminated water, and the connection between free water and economic growth is difficult to follow. Some links are also mechanical, with “Moreover” and “Furthermore” introducing points without fully showing how they relate. The final paragraph stops after its opening phrase, leaving the essay without a completed ending. Make each paragraph develop one central idea in a clear sequence, and use explicit explanations to connect examples to your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “contaminated water,” “epidemics,” “hygiene,” “scarce resources” and “human development.” This gives the response enough language to communicate its main position. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation errors reduce precision: “sbould,” “Profitting,” “encomony” and “support form” appear in the essay. Phrases such as “care about hygiene” and “the source of life” are understandable but not always natural or precise in this context. Aim for accurate, topic-specific expressions and check spelling carefully. For instance, “maintain hygiene” is more idiomatic than “care about hygiene,” while “public investment in water infrastructure” could express the authorities’ role more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a concession beginning “Some people may argue…” and a reason clause with “because.” These structures help present more than one side of the issue. However, the range remains limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to process. Examples include “a issue,” “every home should has water supply,” “other think otherwise,” and “societies should be a to provide.” The sentence beginning “This widespread support form the authorities” is also structurally unclear, and the conclusion is incomplete. Practise subject–verb agreement, articles and verb patterns, then proofread each sentence for a complete subject and verb. Building accurate complex sentences will make your reasoning easier to follow.
