Student answer (Band 6.0)

Access to clean water is basic human right. Everyone should get access to clean drinking water free of cost. Governments must provide their citizens with potable water source.

I am of the same opinon that the local authorities should provide everyone with access to clean drinking water, so that people remain safe from infectious water sources.

Water is a basic necessity for humans, and adequate amount of water is required for proper functioning of human body. Therefore, availability of fresh water is crucial for everybody to sustain themsleves. But many low-income households cannot afford installing water pumps and other filtration systems. On the other hand, electricity bills are also burden for them. For this reason, governments should provide everyone an access to clean water for free. For instance, a definite proportion of taxes should be used to install huge water-treatment plants in every town. From those plants, water should be supplied to every house of the town using pipelines.

Since many regions of the world have scarcity of water, searching for groundwater is a challenging task. This water shortage poses serious issues for the residents. Water is crucial for maintaining many important functions of our body, including digestion, urination and removal of salts from the blood. If enough amount of water is not available, the people may suffer from indigestion, constipation. Other complications include kindey stones, because of the increased level of salts in the blood. People may need to go large distances to get water. To tackle this problem, there should be a proper rainwater harvesting system. For example, local authorities should dig large wells and collect rainwater in that wells. After collection and filtration, it should be supplied to people for drinking and cooking purposes. It reduces the health concerns for the inhabitants and also facilitate them by providing water to their residencies.

To conclude, I firmly agree with the statement that providing potable water to the citizens should be the foremost duty of the governments. For this reason, authorities must take proper actions, reducing the likelihood of people to suffer from water shortages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the opening and conclusion: you agree that governments should ensure access to clean water. You support this with relevant points about affordability, health risks and practical provision, including treatment plants and rainwater harvesting. This gives the response a solid, relevant foundation. Some ideas, however, are developed more fully than others. The discussion of low-income households explains why free provision matters, while the health effects and proposed wells are listed with less explanation of how these measures would guarantee a reliable supply to every home. To strengthen the argument further, address the implication of “free of charge” more precisely—for example, distinguish free access to a basic amount from the costs of building and maintaining infrastructure—and develop each example’s connection to your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces your view, develops affordability and water scarcity in separate paragraphs, and ends with a conclusion that restates your position. Linking expressions such as “For this reason,” “For instance” and “To conclude” help readers follow the argument. However, some connections feel mechanical, and the second body paragraph moves from scarcity to bodily functions, then to long journeys and rainwater collection without fully showing how each point leads to the next. References such as “this water shortage” and “it” in the final sentences could also be more precise. Group related points more tightly and use transitions that explain the relationship between cause, consequence and solution, rather than relying mainly on signposting phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “potable water,” “water-treatment plants,” “water scarcity” and “rainwater harvesting.” These terms help communicate the subject clearly, and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural choices and spelling slips, such as “free of cost,” “infectious water sources,” “adequate amount,” “the inhabitants” and “residencies.” “Kindey” is a spelling error, while “water sources” would be more naturally described as contaminated or unsafe. Repeated use of “water,” “people” and “provide” also limits variety. Aim for precise collocations and check spelling; for example, use “free of charge,” “contaminated water” and “residents’ homes.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “so that,” “because” and “if.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the longer sentences show an attempt to explain causes and consequences. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, agreement and sentence construction. Examples include “is basic human right” (missing an article), “adequate amount of water is required” (article use), “collect rainwater in that wells” (determiner and plural agreement), and “it should be supplied” after a plural reference to wells or water. The sentence beginning “For this reason, authorities must take proper actions, reducing…” also has an unclear grammatical relationship between the actions and the result. Review articles and ensure pronouns and verbs clearly match their referents.
