Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that water should be a supplied free of charge to every household as it is a basic human right. I completely disagree with this view due to the wastage of water and economical impact on the country.

One of the main reasons why I disagree with this statement is that the indivisuals waste the water if provided free. Although water is basic human right but when the free water is provided to them, they use that in excess as it is not costing them anything. They use As a result, it can cause water shortage in the country in future. For instance, last year, Korea faced the challenges of water shortage in their country leaving people away from usage of water in homes for many days.

Another important reason for my opinion is that it can affect the economical aspects of the country. This is because in order to supply the free water to all the homes, government need to cover up the expenses of maintaining the dams, piplelines etc. Providing water as free of charge to people means all the cost is on the shoulders of government of a country. This may result in affecting the economy of country and forcing government to implement more taxes on other things which can be strong reason for inflation in the country.

In conclusion, I completely disagree that people should get water free of charge because it can affect the overall economy of a country and cause water shortage in the coming years.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you disagree because free provision could encourage waste and place costs on government. Both reasons are relevant, and you include an example of water shortages in Korea. This meets the task, but the ideas are not developed equally or fully. The Korea example is asserted rather than explained, so its connection to free household water is unclear. The economic argument identifies maintenance costs and possible higher taxes, but would be stronger with a specific explanation or example of how charging households could fund reliable supply while protecting access for people in need. Addressing this distinction would make your response more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. Signposting such as “One of the main reasons” and “Another important reason” helps readers follow the argument. However, some connections are mechanical, and the progression within the first body paragraph is interrupted by the fragment “They use” before “As a result.” The relationship between the Korea example and the claim about free water is also not made explicit. Use complete transitions and explain how each example supports the point. Clearer referencing and more varied links between cause, consequence, and evidence would make the organisation smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “water shortage,” “maintaining the dams,” “pipelines,” “expenses,” and “inflation,” which allows you to discuss both environmental and economic consequences. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “on the shoulders of government.” However, several word-choice and spelling problems reduce precision: “economical impact” is not the natural phrase for effects on a national economy, and “indivisuals” and “piplelines” are misspelled. “Challenges of water shortage” and “away from usage of water” are also awkward expressions. Aim for accurate collocations and proofread spelling so your vocabulary communicates the argument more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple statements and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “if provided free” and a cause-and-effect sentence beginning “This is because.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. For example, “water should be a supplied” has an unnecessary article, and “government need to cover up the expenses” has a subject–verb agreement error. The sentence “Although water is basic human right but…” combines conjunctions incorrectly, while “They use” is left as an incomplete sentence. Review articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, and vary complex structures while checking that each clause is complete.
