Student answer (Band 5.0)

Water is a basic human right , should be provided and available to every human . On earth more than 70% of area is covered by water and remaining is land where living beings live . Whereas this water is not safe to drink and it's salty . For human consumption clean water is required .

Human being can not live without water for more than 2-3 days and hence water is necessery for living . In today's world , clean water is available at every house but still there are some areas where even water pipe line is not available which creates issue , these areas also lack in avaiblity of clean drinking water . We have enough water doesn't mean we should use it without worrying about the future . If every home will have a water supply that is provided free of charge , people might misuse the avaiblity of water and waste aswell . Though , government of the country should take action on providing clean drinking water at better or low price for the needy .

Further more , clean water should be affordable so that everyone can easily purchase if in need . Water should be available at construction sites by the contractor , every construction happening whether it's from private company or government it should provide drinking water . Even animals have to place to drink water as ponds & lakes are drying . Water is basic thing required for human , should be available to every one . Water should be free of charge but it's neither convinent nor affordable to produce clean drinking water .

To conclude , water is a resource which every human needs and should be available at every household . It's not possible to produce clean drinking water and give it as free of charge . People might misuse it aswell.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address the question and your position is broadly that clean water should be available to everyone, but it should not necessarily be free because it is costly to provide and free access could encourage waste. This is relevant, and the point about government support for people in need begins to explain your view. However, the position is not fully consistent: you say water “should be free of charge” before concluding that it is not possible to provide it free. Several points, such as water at construction sites and animals’ access to ponds, are not clearly connected to whether household water should be free. Develop two or three central reasons with specific explanation or examples, and state your position consistently. The response meets the required length; 10 words copied from the task prompt were excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion, and it uses basic linking expressions such as “Whereas,” “Though,” “Further more” and “To conclude.” These help signal some relationships between ideas. However, the overall progression is difficult to follow: the discussion moves from water coverage to access, possible waste, construction sites and animals without clearly building a case about free household supply. Some links are also unclear, as in “Though, government of the country should take action,” and the conclusion repeats earlier claims rather than drawing the argument together. Organise each body paragraph around one reason, use transitions that accurately show the relationship between points, and make references such as “it” and “these areas” unmistakable.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the general subject, including “clean drinking water,” “water supply,” “affordable” and “misuse.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are repeated, particularly “water,” “available” and “free of charge.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “lack in avaiblity,” “better or low price,” and “Water is basic thing.” Spelling errors including “necessery,” “avaiblity,” “convinen[t]” and “Further more” also make the writing less clear and controlled. Build a wider set of precise terms for access, cost and conservation, and check spelling and common word combinations when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, for example the conditional idea “If every home will have a water supply … people might misuse” and the sentence beginning “Though, government…”. However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to read. Examples include “Water is a basic human right, should be provided,” which joins clauses incorrectly, and “Human being can not live … and hence water is necessery,” which has problems with number and sentence construction. Articles, agreement and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “Water is basic thing” and the spaces before commas and full stops. Practise complete sentence patterns, especially clauses with “if,” and proofread for articles, plurals and punctuation.
