Student answer (Band 6.0)

Water is the basic need for all living things. However, access to purified and filtered water is the fundamental right of every person. So, I firmly believe that it would be very beneficial for all of us if, goverment or authorities all over the world, provide a source of water at each house and make it free of cost.

Firsly, it will be very easy for the persons who have a very low income and have large families to support. They will be relaxed from one type of expense and can use their money for another necessity.

Secondly, this scheme of free water supply, will also be helpfull for old people who are living on their pension system and have no other source of income, leaving alone with no one else to support.

Thirdly, there will be no monthly limitaton fo the use of water. If we have guests in our homes, we do not have to worry about the huge amout of bills for exceeding the limitaions. Although we use it or not we will be out of worry. If a family is on a tour they have to pay the monthly expese of water resource but if it is free they can save their money.

This plan may has a bad effect on some people who are careless about value of pure water. In old days, centuries ago, there were no taps available in houses. They only have natural sources to take water from and use it. Wells were buit from where people filled their buckets and took it to their houses. Wells were, sometime, far away. So,they know the worth of water. Nowadays, its available in each home without any effort. We sholud value it and try to use it caefully.

Regardless of the drawbacks of free water supply, I will say thay it will be available to everyone in their homes without any bills to pay. It is the basic human right. Furthermore, awareness schemes should also be held to use water with a great care.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you firmly support free household water, and the conclusion restates this view. You address the main issue and give relevant reasons, including financial relief for low-income families and pensioners, as well as the risk that free access could encourage waste. The discussion of water use when a family is travelling is also relevant, but its connection to the proposal is not fully explained. Some points are asserted rather than developed—for example, explain how free provision would be funded and how awareness campaigns could prevent waste. The response therefore covers the task, but its supporting ideas are not consistently extended or clarified.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for supporting reasons, a paragraph acknowledging a drawback, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Thirdly” make the progression easy to follow, and the contrast introduced by “Although” signals a shift in argument. However, this reliance on numbered transitions can feel mechanical, and some links between ideas are unclear. For instance, the discussion of guests, water bills, and families travelling moves between examples without showing precisely how each supports free provision. The historical paragraph also shifts from wells to present-day responsibility rather abruptly. Use clearer topic sentences and connect examples explicitly to the paragraph’s main claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main argument, including relevant terms such as “low income,” “pension,” “natural sources,” and “basic human right.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “fundamental right” and “awareness schemes.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make the writing less natural: “relaxed from one type of expense,” “monthly limitaton,” “huge amout of bills,” and “use it caefully.” “Free of cost” is also less idiomatic than “free of charge.” These errors do not prevent understanding, but they are noticeable. Build accuracy by learning common collocations and checking spelling and word forms before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional idea (“If we have guests in our homes…”) and a concession (“Although we use it or not…”). The overall meaning is usually understandable, but control is inconsistent, and several sentence structures are faulty. For example, “it will also be helpfull” has an incorrect verb construction, while “This plan may has a bad effect” uses the wrong form after a modal. The opening sentence also has an awkwardly punctuated clause around “if, goverment or authorities… provide.” There are problems with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries in places. Practise modal patterns, clause construction, and punctuation, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
