Student answer (Band 6.0)
Clean water is one of the most fundamental needs of every human being. It is believed that every household should have free access to water supply. Personally, I disagree with this statement. Although, water is a natural source and it is necessary for everyday use, clean water still needs to undergo through a special process to be safely consumed by the public.
Humans are mainly dependent to water. It is widely use for cleaning, cooking, drinking, washing clothes and dishes. Factories and agricultural sector also consume water for their operations.
The Earth is composed of almost 80% of water mostly salt water while only 10% is safe to consume by the people. This 10% is sourced out naturally from springs and glaciers that were used to all households, factories, and agriculture. Due to climate change and increasing demand on water, scientists believe that the Earth can no longer give enough supply of potable water to the people. As a result, experts developed system to convert salt water in to potable water. This process needs special equipment and continues maintenance in order to produce quality clean water. Companies who makes this process spend a certain amount of money to keep their operation going. If people wants to have continued access to clean water, they have to pay certain amount to help out company on their operational expenses.
In conclusion, due to climate change and increase on demand of clean water, the public should pay a certain amount of money to access water they need for their daily actvities. This fee is use to keep water companies maintain their equipment and pay for their workers to process clean water.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you disagree that household water should be free, and the conclusion restates that people should contribute to the cost of supplying it. The explanation that treatment and desalination require equipment, maintenance and workers is relevant and gives your argument a practical basis. However, some points are less fully developed than others. The paragraph about water use lists household and industrial activities but does not explain how this supports your position. The figures about the Earth’s water supply are also presented without a clear source or explanation, and the claim that only 10% is safe to consume is questionable. Develop the central argument with a more precise example, such as how charges fund treatment and infrastructure while subsidies protect low-income households.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from your position to background information, then to the cost argument and a conclusion. Paragraphing generally separates these stages, and linking phrases such as “As a result” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the progression. However, the second paragraph’s list of water uses feels disconnected from the argument, and the transition from natural water sources to desalination could be explained more clearly. Some connections are also mechanical: the conclusion largely repeats the claim that people should pay and that companies need funds, rather than drawing the reasoning together. To strengthen progression, make each paragraph advance one clear reason and use references such as “these treatment costs” to connect ideas precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “potable water,” “climate change,” “operational expenses” and “agricultural sector.” These choices show an attempt to discuss water supply beyond basic everyday terms, and the meaning is generally clear. However, some word combinations and forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “dependent to water,” “sourced out naturally,” “continued access” and “increase on demand.” There is also a spelling error in “actvities.” These slips do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Build accuracy by learning common collocations as complete phrases—for example, “depend on water,” “water is sourced from,” and “rising demand for clean water”—and check spelling during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concession in the opening and a cause-and-effect sequence in “Due to climate change … As a result…”. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction. Examples include “It is widely use,” “Companies who makes,” and “If people wants”; these should be “It is widely used,” “Companies that make,” and “If people want.” The opening also has an unnecessary comma after “Although,” and “needs to undergo through” uses an incorrect construction. Aim to produce more consistently accurate sentences before adding complexity: check subject–verb agreement, passive forms and verb patterns, then proofread punctuation and articles.
