Student answer (Band 5.5)
Clean drinking water is key to life and this the most fundamental right of humans. Every home should get a water supply to meet the basic needs of life.
Clean and drinkable water is important for human survival as without water it is impossible to survive and live a healthy life. But the level of drinking water is decreasing day by day underground thus posing a major threat for survival of human beings. The decreasing water level able to drink is alarming situation and needs to be addressed. The water filtering plants costs much and every person cannot afford installation of these plants in their homes.
I agree with that every home should get clean water supply and that should be free of cost so that everybody can take and drink safe and clean water. The government should devise some plans, install filteration plants in residential areas and maintain them to keep functional. The local government should bear all the expenses for running these filteration plants. The installation of these plants in local areas will ease the availbility of clean water.
I totally agree with the providance of clean drinking water at every doorstep because not everyone can afford and drink clean water. One of the family in my village lived a miserable life. Only one person was earning to raise a family of 7. They were not in a position to buy clean water from filteration plants. They keep on drinking the tap water available to them. The father developed severe medical issues and could not survive the battle of life and passed away.
To conclude, the clean and drinking water is the basic human right of everyone and they should be provided with the basic facilities of life to live a life. In this regard, government should step forward and play a role in providing the residents with basic life facilities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you agree that households should receive clean water without charge, and you give relevant reasons, including affordability and the government’s role in providing filtration facilities. The village family example also helps show the human consequences of unsafe water. However, some points are less fully developed than others. The discussion of falling underground water levels is introduced but not clearly connected to why household water should be free, and the proposal for local filtration plants could be explained further—for example, how they would ensure reliable access for all residents. The conclusion restates your view but adds little to the argument. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation of how it supports your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable overall structure: it introduces the issue, presents reasons for agreement, gives an example, and concludes. Paragraphs generally have a clear focus, and links such as “But,” “The government should,” and “To conclude” help guide the reader. However, progression between ideas is sometimes abrupt. The point about declining underground water levels does not lead clearly into the affordability argument, while the two paragraphs beginning “I agree” and “I totally agree” repeat the same position rather than advancing the discussion. Some references, such as “these plants,” require the reader to infer the connection. Group related reasons and use clearer links to show how each paragraph develops the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “basic human right,” “human survival,” “filtering plants,” and “medical issues,” so your meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “bear all the expenses” and “decreasing water level.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “the level of drinking water is decreasing day by day underground,” “ease the availbility,” and “providance of clean drinking water.” Spelling errors such as “filteration” and “availbility” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural combinations—for instance, “groundwater levels are falling” and “improve access to clean water”—and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the clause beginning “as without water” and the sentence explaining that the father “could not survive … and passed away.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and verb forms. For example, “this the most fundamental right” is missing a verb, “The water filtering plants costs much” has subject–verb disagreement, and “The decreasing water level able to drink is alarming situation” is structurally incomplete and lacks an article. The opening sentence also joins ideas with “and” without a complete grammatical link. Review sentence completeness, singular/plural agreement, and article use, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
