Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 4.0)
It is a fundamental right of human being to get the fresh water. That is why, the supply of clean water to every home should be free of charge. I strongly disagree with this assertion for several reasons.
Initially, like air and light, water is also the natural source. Almost 70% of earth area is covered with water in the form of solid, liquid and gas. Unfortunately, only 3% of water is fresh and usable. A large number of populace use the water nevertheless for drinking only. It

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You state a clear position in the opening: “I strongly disagree,” which directly answers the question. You also begin to introduce relevant context by noting that only a small proportion of the world’s water is fresh and usable. However, the response stops before explaining why households should pay, developing reasons, or giving the requested examples. The point that many people use water “for drinking only” is not clearly connected to your disagreement. The response is also substantially below the required minimum length, so the task is addressed only minimally and the position is not supported. To improve, explain your reasons—for example, the costs of treatment and delivery—and develop each with a relevant example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has a basic overall shape: an introduction gives your position, followed by a paragraph beginning “Initially” that starts to provide background. This gives the reader some sense of direction. However, the progression is not sustained: the final sentence breaks off at “It,” leaving the paragraph and argument incomplete. The connector “Initially” also suggests that further points will follow, but none appear. Some links between ideas are unclear, particularly how the global water statistics support your view about charging households. Use separate paragraphs for each reason, connect evidence explicitly to your position, and ensure each sentence is complete before moving to the next point.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “fundamental right,” “fresh water,” “free of charge,” and “usable,” and the main subject is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “I strongly disagree with this assertion.” However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise: “natural source” does not clearly express the intended idea, and “a large number of populace” is not an appropriate collocation. “Earth area” is also unclear. These choices limit precision and make parts of the argument harder to follow. Build a reliable set of collocations for water supply and public services, and choose straightforward, accurate wording before attempting more elaborate expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You produce some complete simple sentences, such as “I strongly disagree with this assertion for several reasons,” and attempt a more complex opening with “That is why.” This shows a basic ability to form connected statements. However, grammatical control is uneven: “It is a fundamental right of human being” is missing an article and has a number mismatch, while “Almost 70% of earth area is covered” has problems with article use and sentence construction. The final “It” is an incomplete sentence, and the extra spacing around words affects presentation. Practise accurate articles and singular/plural forms, and check that every sentence has a complete subject and verb. A wider range of structures will be more effective once these basics are secure.
