Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people argue that access to pure water is a basic human. So every individual home should have water supply that is provided free of cost. I disagree with this because its very hard for government to fulfill this need and people will be less responsible as they will use a lot of water.

One major reasons is that government can't provide pure water for free since the government has many other things to invest in furthermore government wants to improve economy of the state. Installing pipes to every house will be more expensive and consume tons of time. For instance, government wants to improve the economy of country so they will prefer to invest taxes in education or technology however, government will not get any benefit from it but will lose their

investment.

On the other hand if the pure water is provided to every house in the state; people will be less responsible and careless as a result they will spend water unnecessary. For instance, peep will be using that water for taking a bath or to do a laundary furthermore children will be wasting that water as they usually do and women will be using it in kitchen. This will discriminate the importance of pure water between people and they will be more careless regarding water.

In conlusion, I firmly believe that water shouldn't be provided for free as it is hard for government to supply that amount of water for free as its quite expensive for the government furthermore, it make them more careless and less responsible regarding pure water.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you disagree with free household water, and the conclusion restates this view. You give two relevant reasons—government costs and the risk of waste—and include examples such as investment in education or technology and household uses of water. This addresses the task, but the reasons are not equally well developed. The claim that government would receive “no benefit” from water infrastructure is asserted rather than explained, and the examples of bathing, laundry and cooking do not fully show why charging would make people more responsible. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of each reason and acknowledge that basic access could still be protected while households pay for usage.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. The reader can follow the main line of argument, and phrases such as “For instance” help introduce examples. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, especially through repeated use of “furthermore” and “as” to connect ideas. Some links are also unclear: “This will discriminate the importance of pure water between people” does not clearly express how the preceding examples support your point. Use more precise transitions and make the relationship between each claim and its example explicit. Within paragraphs, develop one point at a time rather than joining several claims in long sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main argument, including “invest,” “economy,” “installing pipes,” and “responsible.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. For example, “pure water” is less suitable than “clean water” in this context, “provided free of cost” is unnatural, and “spend water unnecessary” does not express the intended idea accurately. There are also spelling errors such as “peep,” “laundary,” and “conlusion.” Aim to use precise water-policy vocabulary and check spelling; varying repeated words such as “government,” “water,” and “careless” would also improve flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “if the pure water is provided … people will be less responsible” and clauses introduced by “since” and “as a result.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and punctuation reduce accuracy. For example, “One major reasons is” has a number-agreement problem, while “every individual home should have water supply” needs an article. The opening phrase “a basic human” is also grammatically incomplete. Several long sentences run together without clear punctuation, particularly the sentence beginning “For instance, government wants to improve the economy.” Practise accurate article use and agreement, and divide complex ideas into well-punctuated sentences.
