Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is often argued that water is human everyday needs while some people suggest every households should have water supply that is porvided of no cost. I strongly believe with this view because people with clean water will be save from disease and governement should be responsible for provision at no cost.

One important point is the health benefit for people at the rural and urban area, water consuption without proper purification might lead to diseases across the cities. For example, individuals staying at the rural areas tend to get water off the stream and consume without purifications. Consequently lead to sickness.

Another point is the responsibility of the government to provide a standard water supply across the cities to reduce pollutions from people trying to look for good water. This can be done by channeling a accessible pipe for each household at no cost. For example, the water cooperation should be used

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

Your position is clear: you agree that households should receive water without charge, and you give relevant reasons concerning health and government responsibility. The rural example of people drinking untreated stream water also supports your health point. However, the response addresses the task only partially: the reasons are briefly stated rather than explained, and the second example ends unfinished (“the water cooperation should be used”). You do not discuss how free provision could be funded or respond to possible objections, which would help develop your argument. The response is also 97 words below the required minimum, leaving too little space to develop the ideas and provide a complete conclusion. Extend each reason with explanation and a specific, completed example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction states your view, followed by two body paragraphs, each introduced with a signpost (“One important point” and “Another point”). Connectors such as “For example” and “Consequently” show an attempt to link claims and evidence. However, progression is limited because each paragraph moves quickly from a claim to a brief example, and the final paragraph stops mid-thought. “Consequently lead to sickness” is not a complete sentence, so the relationship between the example and its result is not smoothly expressed. Develop a clear sequence in each paragraph—main idea, explanation, example, and implication—and finish with a concluding paragraph that restates your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “purification,” “diseases,” “provision,” and “household,” which helps communicate the subject of public water supply. Your wording is nevertheless limited and several spelling or word-choice errors make parts less clear, such as “porvided,” “governement,” “consuption,” and “cooperation” where the intended term appears to be “corporation.” Some combinations are also unnatural, including “water is human everyday needs” and “water supply that is provided of no cost.” Build a more accurate range of collocations for this topic, such as “access to safe drinking water,” “water-treatment facilities,” and “publicly funded supply.” Proofread spelling and choose precise terms so the reader does not have to infer your meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a reason clause beginning “because” and a conditional structure with “might lead to.” This shows some effort to vary sentence forms. However, the range remains limited, and errors occur often enough to make several sentences difficult to follow. For example, “people with clean water will be save” has an incorrect verb form, while “Consequently lead to sickness” is a fragment without a clear subject. There are also problems with agreement and sentence construction in “water is human everyday needs” and “This can be done by channeling a accessible pipe.” Practise complete sentences, subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb forms, then check each sentence for a clear subject and main verb.
