Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, access to clean water has become an important issue in many countries. Some people believe that every household should recieve clean water free of cost because it is a basic human right. I cpmpletely agree with this statement because clean water is essential for human health and i can help poor families.

To begin with, the main reason why I agree with this statement is that clean water plays an important role in maintaning good health. People need water for drinking, cooking, cleaning and other daily activites. If people donot have access to clean water, they may suffer fron serious diseases. Foir example, in many rural areas of Pakistan, people face health problemsbecause they drink polluted water. Therefore, government should provide clean drinking water to every household without charging money.

Furthermore, free water can improve the living standatrdsof poor families. Many people cannot afford to pay high water bills because they already spend most of their income on food, education and electricity. If government provide free water, these families can save money and use it for other basic needs. For instance, low-income families could spend more money on their childerns education and healthcare. Although providing free water may be expensive for governments, they can manage their cost through taxes and proper planning. As a result, free water can create a healthier and more equal society.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that every home should recieve clean water free of charge because it is necessary for good health and helps financially disadvantaged families. Ibelieve that governments should take responsiblity for ensuring that everyone has access to their basic necessity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction (“I completely agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the central claim by giving two relevant reasons: clean water protects health, and free provision would ease pressure on low-income households. The examples about polluted water in rural Pakistan and families redirecting money to education and healthcare help support these points. This fits a response that addresses the task and extends its ideas, although some claims are broad: for example, you do not explain how governments could ensure a reliable supply or distinguish essential household water from unlimited use. Develop one example in more detail and briefly acknowledge a practical qualification to make the argument more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and the examples are placed appropriately. This is coherent and meets the lower-band expectations securely. To show more of the next level, make connections between claims more precise and less dependent on formulaic transitions. For instance, the move from the cost of free water to “taxes and proper planning” is relevant but brief; explain how this addresses the concern. Check sentence boundaries and spacing as well, since missing spaces in “health problemsbecause” and “standatrdsof” interrupt the otherwise clear presentation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the argument, including “polluted water,” “water bills,” “low-income families,” and “financially disadvantaged.” However, the range is limited and several spelling errors are noticeable, such as “recieve,” “maintaning,” “activites,” and “childerns.” Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural, including “free of cost” and “improve the living standards of poor families.” These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they reduce accuracy and flexibility. Build a more reliable set of collocations for public services and household costs, and proofread spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help you express the argument without relying on repeated general terms such as “important” and “basic.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “If people do not have access to clean water, they may suffer…” and “Although providing free water may be expensive…”. These help you explain consequences and contrast. However, errors in sentence structure and verb forms recur: “I can help poor families” does not express the intended meaning, and “If government provide free water” needs a correctly formed subject and verb. There are also article and agreement problems in phrases such as “government should provide” and “their basic necessity.” These errors are generally understandable, but they limit control. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb forms, while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
