Student answer (Band 4.0)

A basic right of every human is having the availabilty of clean water. That is why water supply to each household should be provided free of cost. Since water from natural sources is available throught our planet, it should be distributed evenly to all humans. Secondly, humans cannot survive without water which makes it is a necessity. I believe that every human should have access to clean water.

Since our planet's water source is in the form of rain, glaciers and rivers. It is unethical to charge for water which exists naturally to households

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

Your position is clear: you agree that households should receive clean water without charge, and you give relevant reasons, including that water is naturally available and essential for survival. However, the response addresses the task only minimally. The reasons are asserted rather than explained, and there is no specific example or discussion of how a free household supply could be provided. The final paragraph begins with an incomplete sentence and largely repeats the natural-source point instead of developing a new argument. The response is also substantially below the required 250 words, which limits how fully you can address the question. To strengthen your answer, explain each reason, consider a counterargument such as treatment and delivery costs, and support your position with a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic overall direction: it states a position, gives reasons, and returns to the idea that water is a necessity. Connectors such as “That is why” and “Secondly” help signal relationships between points. However, the progression is very limited, and the second paragraph does not develop the argument; it repeats the claim about natural water. The opening “Since our planet’s water source…” is left as a sentence fragment, so the relationship between this point and the next is unclear. Organise the essay into a clear introduction, developed body paragraphs, and conclusion, with each paragraph advancing a distinct reason. Use linking phrases to show cause and contrast, rather than relying on a short sequence of assertions.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “basic right,” “household,” “distributed evenly,” “necessity,” and “natural sources.” These choices make your main meaning understandable. However, the range is narrow and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “having the availabilty of clean water,” “free of cost,” and “water source is in the form of rain, glaciers and rivers.” There is also a spelling error in “availabilty” and “throught.” Aim for more precise collocations, for example, “access to clean water,” “provided free of charge,” and “water comes from sources such as rainfall, glaciers and rivers.” A wider range of topic-specific terms would also help you explain treatment, infrastructure, and household supply.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You communicate your central position using mostly simple sentence patterns, and the sentence “I believe that every human should have access to clean water” is clear. There is an attempt at a more complex structure in “which makes it is a necessity,” but the clause is not formed correctly: write “which makes it a necessity” or “which means it is a necessity.” The final paragraph also starts with “Since,” creating a dependent clause without a complete main clause. Sentence structures are therefore limited, and these errors affect clarity, although the reader can generally follow your intended meaning. Practise combining complete clauses accurately, and check that every sentence has a main clause and that verbs and clause patterns are correctly formed.
