Student answer (Band 5.5)

Accessibility to clean water is a basic human although it is ignored most of the time. As most people believe that a minimal cost should be applied on water supply. I believe as a basic survival need it should be provided free of cost.

Firstly, People who argue that it should not be free of cost believes that everything comes at a price and like other things it should be paid for as well. To justify this, the question of funds and donations has been raised although it is a question within itself as well.

Although, i strongly believe that the water supply should have to be free of cost because most countries are insufficient in providing clean water access to their citizens. Keeping in view, Pakistan is on the top in terms of waterborne diseases. Approximately 70% to 85% of households in Pakistan drink bacterially contaminated or unsafe water due to sewage leakage into aging water supply lines. Although it is a basic necessity yet people don't have lack of access to it.

A free of charge water supply is the basic need of people in the present time when it is even hard to provide clean water through paid resources. As water contamination is present there in higher ratios due to industrial sewerage and city sewerage. Municipal Communities should be provided access to free supply so that it can be accessed by the people. Whereas many NGOs are doing the same things free of cost from providing free water supply to providng help to marginalized communities in the flood affected areas.

In conclusion, it can be said that clean water is a basic human right that should be accessible for every individual in their specific domain although this is a widely debated topic that should water be provided free of cost or not but its highly recommended to have an access to the water supply free of cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you support free access to clean water, and the conclusion restates this view. You address the opposing argument that water provision requires payment, then give a relevant example about unsafe water in Pakistan and mention support from NGOs. These points make the response relevant to the question. However, some ideas are not fully explained: the point about “funds and donations” is raised but not developed, and the NGO example does not clearly show how free household water could be funded or delivered. The discussion also shifts between free water supply and access to clean water without fully distinguishing them. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation and a specific example to make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the reader can follow your overall position. You also use linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “Although,” and “In conclusion.” However, progression between ideas is sometimes unclear or mechanical. For example, “To justify this, the question of funds and donations has been raised” does not clearly connect the opposing view to your own argument. Repeated use of “Although” and “As” also makes some transitions awkward, and the final body paragraph combines contamination, municipal access and NGO work without a clear sequence. Organise each paragraph around one main point and use references and transitions that show how each sentence relates to it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “waterborne diseases,” “bacterially contaminated,” “sewage leakage,” and “marginalized communities,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “basic human right” and “provided free of charge.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, including “Accessibility to clean water,” “free of cost,” and “people don't have lack of access.” “Municipal Communities” is also unclear in this context, and “providng” is misspelled. These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less precise. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling; for example, use “access to clean water” and “at no cost” consistently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “although” and “because,” and the main argument is generally understandable. However, errors in agreement, sentence construction and punctuation are frequent enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “People who argue … believes” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “As most people believe that a minimal cost should be applied on water supply” is an incomplete sentence. The construction “should have to be free of cost” is also faulty, and the final sentence is overloaded with clauses. Review agreement and sentence boundaries, and simplify sentences when several ideas are being joined. This will make your complex structures more controlled and accurate.
