Student answer (Band 6.0)

Purified water is one of the most vital recources human require to survive. To keep a life form alive water is essential for every species including trees. I firmly contend that, every individual and their living place should have the access to filtered water without any extra charge.

Water is of paramount importance in our day to day life. From dusk till dawn we require water in our home for multiple reasons. Every individual needs water in the morning to get freshen up. Additionally, we need clean water to cook, wash dishes, do laundry and so on. While government may consider that charging for clean water access to everyone is crucial for a country's economy. However, there are certain group of individuals who struggle to afford to pay for clean water. For instance, in the capital city there are lot of slums and they often do not get the access to clean water because it will cost money. Therefore they end up drinking unfiltered water that causes them to fall into sickness.

To prevent these water related diseases which are mostly prominent in children living in slums, it is crucial that government should contend free access to purified water for every family and every house. Moreover, government should subsidize for clean water access to the people who cannot afford to get purified water. By making sure everyone in the society gets access to clean water we can keep the whole country safe along with animals and trees.

To sup up, while government may think charging for clean water access could be beneficial for a country's economy. I firmly contend that free access to clean water supply is definitely of paramount importance as it is the basic human right.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you support free access to clean water, and you address both the importance of water and the hardship faced by people who cannot afford it. The example of slum residents relying on unfiltered water gives the argument relevant support. However, some points are less fully developed than others. The opening discussion of water for all species and household routines establishes its importance, but does not directly explain why the supply should be free rather than affordable or subsidised. You briefly acknowledge the economic argument, yet do not explain it or weigh it against your position. Develop this contrast and clarify whether you mean a free basic supply for every home or fully free water use.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: it introduces your view, gives reasons and an example, then ends with a conclusion that restates your position. Paragraphs generally have clear purposes, and connectors such as “Additionally,” “For instance” and “Moreover” help show relationships between ideas. At times, however, cohesion feels mechanical or the links are not fully logical. “While government may consider…” is followed by “However,” creating an awkward contrast, and the final paragraph repeats the earlier position rather than drawing the main reasons together. Some references, such as “it” in “it will cost money,” could be clearer. Use transitions more selectively and make each paragraph build on the previous one.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including phrases such as “paramount importance,” “subsidize” and “water-related diseases.” These choices help communicate the main argument, and the meaning is generally clear. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural word choices and collocations, including “recources,” “get freshen up,” “contend free access” and “sup up.” “Filtered” and “purified” are repeated where “safe drinking water” or “treated water” could add precision. Check spelling and choose collocations that sound natural in context; for example, governments can “provide” or “ensure” access, rather than “contend” it. Greater precision and more consistent control of word forms would strengthen the argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “While,” “because” and “that,” and most sentences remain understandable. Some grammatical errors occur, but they rarely prevent the reader from following your meaning. Examples include “every individual and their living place should have the access,” where the article and noun phrase are not well formed, and “there are lot of slums,” which needs an article. In “government should contend free access,” the verb pattern is also incorrect. Punctuation after introductory clauses is sometimes awkward, as in “While government may consider…”. Review articles, subject–verb agreement, and clause punctuation, then proofread each sentence for a complete and natural grammatical structure.
