Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemprory epoch, it is highly debated that access to clean water is a basic human right. Therefore, every home should have a water supply provided free of charge. I neither agree or disagree with this statement.

The primary reason for my agreement is that water is a basic necessity for survival. Every human being requires water to function and live life. Because of this, the water should be provided to everybody regardless of their economic conditions and well being. For instance, In the African peninsula, due to lack of clean water supply, the majority of population is suffering from dehydration and drought, which leads to death of many poor souls. This necessitates the need of a clean water supply.

On the other hand, water is a limited resource. Providing it free of charge can lead to deprivation and exhaution. Supply of clean water requires extensive resources, architecture and planning. Because of this, the water supply should be a gated to the behind a paywall to make wastage and irresponsible use a punishable act. For demonstration, In the low water supply region of India, the cost of water has been regulated by the goverment based on the usage. This introduces accountability and helps maintain the local resources.

Consequently, The requirement of water for survival and the scarcity of clean water as a resource remarks it as a quite unique set of challenges. Therefore, water should be provided to homes free of charge but to a certain limit. Without any proper guardrails and regulations in place, it will can lead to severe consequences for the generations to come. Hence, i neither fully agree or disagree with the presented statement.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and give a qualified position: water should be free up to a limit. The survival argument is relevant, and the example of water scarcity in parts of Africa supports the need for access. You also explain that charging for use could discourage waste and mention regulation in India. However, the opening says “I neither agree or disagree,” while the conclusion gives a more definite conditional view, so your position is not fully consistent. Some support is also under-developed: explain how a free basic allowance could be funded and how charges above it would work. The response contains 261 words, with 17 words copied from the task prompt excluded from that count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs, and a conclusion. “On the other hand” signals the shift to the opposing consideration, while “Consequently” helps introduce your final position. This logical structure meets the lower-band expectations and shows some features of stronger progression. However, the links between claims and examples are occasionally abrupt: the Africa example is not fully explained, and the India example does not clearly show how regulation prevents waste. Some transitions, including “Because of this” in both body paragraphs, feel repetitive or mechanical. Make the relationship between each reason, its example, and your qualified conclusion more explicit, and use referencing that clearly identifies what “this” refers to.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including relevant terms such as “basic necessity,” “limited resource,” “dehydration,” “accountability,” and “regulations.” These choices help communicate the main arguments, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “African peninsula,” “a gated to the behind a paywall,” and “remarks it as a quite unique set of challenges.” There are also spelling errors, including “contemprory,” “exhaution,” and “goverment.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision. Prefer straightforward, accurate phrasing and check spelling; for example, describe “regions of Africa affected by water scarcity” rather than using an inaccurate geographical label.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the subordinate clauses in “Because of this” sentences and the conditional structure “Without any proper guardrails … it will can lead.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “I neither agree or disagree” should use the paired form “neither … nor,” and “it will can lead” combines incompatible modal constructions. The phrase “the water supply should be a gated to the behind a paywall” also has a faulty sentence structure, while “the majority of population” needs an article. Review parallel constructions, modal verbs, and articles, and proofread punctuation and capitalization, particularly after sentence breaks.
