Student answer (Band 6.0)

Now a days, diseases due to contaminated water have increased. Access to clean water should be provided for free to each and every home.

Every home should have access to clean water for free. Not only it will lower the desease rate but also improve people's health. Diseases like cholera, jaundice will decline. And clean water is a basic necessity for every human on this planet for living. Morever, clean water is essential for other household activities too like cooking, cleaning, washing and not just drinking. Issues such as hairfall, skin diseases, skin pigmentation changes also occur due to impure water. Clean water will also improve the skin and hair quality.

The government should also spread awareness in people to store rain waters in underground tanks and wells. So that people can utilize it for their personal use. Government can build underground water storage facilities so that the rain water can be collected and not go to waste. Adequate underground pipeline systems should be made. They should also clean the rivers so that rural people who are dependent on river waters can get clean water. Because, due to rise in industries, waste emmissions in the rivers has spiked and this water reaches the rural people which is used for everything by rural people. Urban people don't value fresh water, they waste it a lot.

In conclusion, I believe that every home should have access to a clean water supply for free as this is a basic need, a basic right of people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you agree that every home should receive clean water free of charge, and you give relevant reasons, including health, household use and the effects of polluted rivers. The examples of cholera and water-related skin problems help explain why access matters. You also offer practical measures such as rainwater storage and pipeline systems. This addresses the task well, but the argument is not fully developed in every part: the essay does not explain how free provision would be funded or managed, and some claims about health benefits are asserted rather than supported. To strengthen the response, explain the link between free access and the right to water, and develop one or two examples with clearer reasoning. The position is consistent, with some further development needed for a more complete argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the main ideas are generally relevant to their paragraphs. However, progression within the body paragraphs is uneven. The second paragraph moves from rainwater storage to pipelines, river pollution and urban waste without clearly showing how each point supports the central argument about free household supply. Some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “also” and “so,” while the fragment “So that people can utilize it” interrupts the flow. The conclusion restates the position but does not draw together the main reasons. Group related points more tightly, use clear topic sentences, and connect each proposed measure explicitly to the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “contaminated water,” “basic necessity,” “underground water storage facilities” and “pipeline systems.” These choices make the subject clear, and some phrases show an attempt to be specific. However, several spelling and word-choice problems reduce precision: “desease,” “Morever,” “emmissions” and “rain waters” should be corrected, and “hairfall” is less natural than “hair loss.” Repetition of “clean water,” “people” and “rural people” also limits flexibility. Aim for accurate collocations and vary repeated terms where the meaning remains clear—for example, “safe drinking water” or “water supply.” More precise vocabulary would make the argument sound more controlled and academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex forms, such as “Not only it will lower the disease rate but also improve people's health” and the clause beginning “Because, due to rise in industries…”. The meaning is usually understandable, but some sentence-structure and punctuation errors remain. “Not only” requires inversion (“Not only will it lower…”), while “So that people can utilize it…” is a dependent clause presented as a sentence. The opening “Now a days” also needs a more standard construction, and the long sentence about industrial waste and rural water use is difficult to follow because its clauses are not clearly controlled. Practise combining ideas with accurate subordination and checking sentence boundaries; this will help you retain your range while improving clarity.
