Student answer (Band 6.0)
Every human has a fundamental right to get access to clean water. So, it is believed that every home should have a water supply without any cost. This essay disagrees with the idea that water supply should be provided free of charge as it may lead to decrease the importance of clean water among the people. Secondly, wastage of water can also become a criticial issue.
The importance of clean water would decrease if it is provided for free because people would just take it for granted and use water needlessly without understanding its importance. As we already know that it is one of most important resource for sustaining life on earth and now its graudally decreasing so, providing it without any caution or cost may not help people understand its value. For example, here in Pakistan, various areas even dont have access to clean water such as Thur or other rural areas of sindh where thousands of children die every year due to lack of availability of clean water.
By removing the cost or providing cleaning water without any charges may lead to severe wastage of water. Even now, when we have to a pay a certain amount for clean water supply, we can see that a huge amount of water is wasted on daily basis. In comparison, very limited awarness campaigns and seminars are held to provide people about how important is the water and how it can be saved. So, providing water without any cost may lead to damages that can far beyond repair. For instance, In Pakistan, when the water is supplied even with a cost, we can see the roads and gutters filled with clean water flowing out of people homes wasting it needlessly.
In Conclusion, there should be a charge or a cost for suppling the water as it can become a barrier for us to understand its importance and avoid us from wasting it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you disagree with free household water, arguing that charging may encourage people to value it and reduce waste. Both reasons are relevant, and the examples from Pakistan help connect the discussion to real conditions. This meets the task well overall. However, the argument is not fully developed in places: the example of communities lacking clean water illustrates scarcity, but does not directly show that charging households elsewhere is the best solution. The claim that people would take free water for granted also needs more explanation or evidence. To strengthen the response, acknowledge the human-rights concern in the prompt and explain how a basic free allowance could be balanced with charges for excessive use.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. The progression from valuing water to preventing waste is easy to follow, and examples are generally placed where they support the relevant point. Some linking is effective, such as “Secondly” and “For example,” but transitions can feel mechanical, and several sentences contain multiple ideas joined without clear relationships. In the second body paragraph, the move from water charges to limited awareness campaigns is not fully explained, so the connection between these points is unclear. Use more precise referencing and make the logical link explicit—for example, explain how pricing and public education would work together to reduce waste.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “fundamental right,” “sustaining life,” “wastage,” and “availability of clean water,” which allows you to discuss the issue clearly. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “severe wastage” and “barrier.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which limits precision: “providing cleaning water” should be “providing clean water,” and “provide people about how important” is not a natural construction. Spelling errors such as “criticial,” “graudally,” and “awarness” also weaken control. Build a more accurate range of topic-specific expressions and check spelling and collocations carefully; this would make your ideas sound more fluent and exact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if it is provided for free” and clauses beginning with “because” and “when.” The overall meaning is usually understandable, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical control recur. For example, “it may lead to decrease” needs an article and a more suitable verb pattern, while “As we already know that” combines two incompatible clause structures. There are also problems with agreement and sentence boundaries in “one of most important resource” and “damages that can far beyond repair.” Aim to make each sentence structurally complete, check articles and singular/plural agreement, and revise long sentences so that subordinate clauses connect clearly to the main clause.
