Student answer (Band 6.5)
Clean water is a necessity for every human on this planet Earth. But, i disagree with the statement that every household should have a water supply free of charge. Anything that is free losses it's value. People will carelessly waste water. But government can take certain measures of providing water in less cost. So, it is affordable for everyone.
Not all water on this planet is clean or drinkable. With the rising population, we have to be careful with the usage of water. As day-by-day shortage of water is seeing an increase with many nations getting deprived of a basic human right, that is water. Providing free water to every household means more water wastage, as anything that is given free of cost losses it's value. For instance i had a roommate living in my house on rent. He was a college student, so understanding his financial conditions i decided not to charge him for the utilities he uses. But that turned out to be a bad decision as he started wasting water without worrying about the bill. That was a lesson for me that nothing should be provided free of cost.
I believe water is a basic human right and necessity. Every household should have clean water that is drinkable and can be used for other activities like washing and bathing etc. Government should charge every household for the amount of water they use. A good approach can be to give certain liters of limit to everyhouse that is free and after that limit hits. Anything above it for that month should be charged. The cost of water should not be too high that it becomes a luxury. Water should be affordable. The income generated from the water can be used to develop dams and other such infrastructures that can store more water or make non drinkable water to clean drinkable water. For example i did the same with my roommate i told him that if we don't cross a certain level of monthly water usage. He will not have to contribute in the bill. But, if we do cross it. He will be responsible for his share of the monthly bill.
In conclusion, i believe water should not be completely free of charge. Free water means more wastage and less security for our future generations. Also, government can take certain measures to make water affordable for everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear throughout: you disagree with completely free household water, while supporting affordable access. You address the human-rights concern and explain your alternative of a free basic allowance followed by charges for higher use. The roommate examples also make your reasoning concrete and relevant. These points provide a developed response to the task. To strengthen it further, qualify the broad claim that free provision leads to waste: one personal example illustrates your experience, but does not establish that this would happen in every household. You could also explain how the proposed free allowance would ensure that low-income households can meet essential needs, making the balance between access and conservation more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: it introduces your position, develops the water-scarcity argument, proposes a pricing system, and concludes consistently. The progression from the general issue to your roommate example and then to a policy solution is easy to follow. At the same time, some linking is repetitive or mechanical, particularly the repeated claim that free goods lose value and the frequent use of “But” and “For example.” The two roommate anecdotes also overlap, so the second could be used to develop the policy proposal rather than repeat the earlier lesson. More precise referencing and a wider range of transitions would make the connections between claims and examples smoother; this would build on the coherent arrangement already present.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “shortage of water,” “water wastage,” “monthly water usage,” and “infrastructures.” These expressions help communicate the central ideas, and the meaning remains clear. However, some word choices and collocations are imprecise or repetitive: “losses it's value” appears more than once, “shortage of water is seeing an increase” is awkward, and “make non drinkable water to clean drinkable water” is not a natural formulation. Aim for more precise phrasing and avoid repeating the same wording when explaining your argument. For example, you could describe rising demand and limited supplies, or say that treatment facilities make unsafe water potable. This would improve flexibility and accuracy while retaining your clear, relevant vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including conditional structures such as “if we don't cross a certain level” and longer sentences explaining the proposed charging system. Most grammatical errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your position. Some errors remain, however, in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For instance, “after that limit hits” is followed by a fragment, “Anything above it for that month should be charged,” and “everyhouse” should be separated as two words. Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “i,” while “if we don't cross … He will not have to contribute” incorrectly separates the conditional clause from its result. Review sentence boundaries and punctuation, and practise combining clauses accurately to make your varied structures more controlled.
