Student answer (Band 5.5)
Clean water is the need of every human being. Thus, having access to clean water at everyones house without any fee is essential. I am totally agree with this statement because clean water is the basic human need from youngest to the oldest person.
firstly, people should have access towards the clean water without any charge. This water will be used in preparing meals, cleaning and bath. Moreover, they can use clean water for plenty of other purposes. This will help them to stay healthy and also help them financially. For example, in our country rural places have no opportunity of clean water and they use polluted water to full fill their basic needs. Therefore now they are not healthy and they have different kind of diseases because of drinking dirty water.
Secondly, others argue that is people will have access to clean water without any charges, they will waste water more then usual usage. Furthermore, this will cause a burden on government because of the wastage of water. People leaves the tap open and wastage of clean water on agricultural field. Besides this, people use extra water on gardening which all are the misused of clean water.
In conclusion, people should have free access of water without any cost and remaining issues could be solved with limiting the time of clean water. For instance, at morning water should have access for three to four hours. These type of strategies will prevent water wastage. In my point of view, those who could not afford clean water have the right of drinking clean water. So, government should work on it further.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the opening: you agree that households should have access to clean water without charge, and you return to this view in the conclusion. You address the main issue and include relevant support, especially the example of rural communities relying on polluted water and becoming ill. You also recognise the counterargument that free water could encourage waste, then suggest limiting supply hours. This gives the response some of the development expected at a stronger level. However, the financial benefit is asserted rather than explained, and the proposed time limits are not reconciled with the claim that water is a basic right for every home. Develop these points and clarify whether you support free essential use or unlimited free supply.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons and a counterargument, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the broad progression. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is not always clear. For example, “Moreover” introduces additional uses without showing how they support the argument, while the second paragraph shifts from household waste to agricultural use and gardening without a clear link. The conclusion also introduces limiting water hours rather abruptly. Use fewer formulaic transitions and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports; clearer paragraph focus and referencing would make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “polluted water,” “basic needs,” “burden on government,” and “water wastage.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations sound unnatural or imprecise, which is consistent with this level. Examples include “access towards the clean water,” “full fill their basic needs,” and “misused of clean water.” Repetition of “clean water,” “people,” and “water” also limits flexibility. Aim to learn common collocations as complete phrases, such as “access to safe drinking water” and “waste water,” and choose precise terms for the groups and uses you discuss. Proofreading spelling and word forms would also improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause in “because clean water is the basic human need” and a conditional idea about free access leading to waste. The overall meaning is usually understandable, but errors recur in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and verb forms. For instance, “I am totally agree” should be “I totally agree,” and “people leaves the tap open” needs subject–verb agreement (“people leave”). The sentence beginning “others argue that is people will have access” is structurally faulty and makes the point harder to follow. There are also punctuation and capitalisation slips, such as starting “firstly” with a lowercase letter after a full stop. Practise accurate conditional clauses and check each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
