Student answer (Band 5.0)

WATER IS ESSENTIAL FOR LIVING. PROVISION OF PURE WATER IS BASIC INDIVIDUAL RIGHT AND IT SHOULD BE SUPPLIED TO THE LIVING AREA WITHOUT ANY COST. IN MY OPINION, WATER IS IMPORTANT FOR HUMAN IT SHOULD BE ACCESSIBLE TO PERSON BUT IT NOT POSSIBLE TO BE SUPPLIED FREE OF COST.

FIRSTLY, IN THE PAST, WHEN TOTAL POPULATION WERE NOT IN BIG NUMBER WATER WAS EASILY ACCESSIBLE TO EVERY INDIVIDUAL IN THE FORM OF STREAMS, LAKES. THAT WATER WAS CLEAN, PURE AND SWEET. BUT WITH THE INCREASE IN POPULATION, PEOPLE START DAMAGING THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT TO MAKE HOUSES FOR THEM DOING THIS WATER FLOW WAS ALSO AFFECTED. SECONDLY, THEY POLLUTED THE WATER BODIES BY DUMPING WASTE MATERIAL LIKE PLASTIC, DUNG, AND CHEMICALS. DRINKING WATER BECOME POLLUTED WITH OF THIS AND IS CAUSING SEVERAL DISEASES LIKE DIAREAHA.

LIVING IN THE PRESENT DAY, WHERE AIR POLLUTION HAS CAUSED MUCH DAMAGE TO THE CLIMATE OF THE WORLD RESULTS IN THE MELTING OF GLACIERS, WE ARE SUFFERING FROM WATER SHORTAGE. SO, MANY INDUSTRIES ARE INSTALLED TO COLLECT WATER AND PURIFY TO MAKE IT DRINKABLE.

TO CONCLUDE THAT DRINKABLE WATER IS NOT EASILY ACCESSIBLE THESE DAYS IS BECAUSE OF THE POLLUTION CAUSED BY HUMANS AND TO HAVE CLEAN WATER ONE HAS TO PAY FOR IT AS PLANTS ARE BEING INSTALLED TO CLEAN IT WHICH REQUIRES MONEY TO OPERATE BUT IT CAN SOLD ON LESS COST

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a relevant position: although clean water is a basic right, you argue that supplying it free to every home is not feasible. The discussion of pollution, water shortages and the cost of purification supports this view. However, the position is not fully clear in the opening, where you first say water “should be supplied ... without any cost” and then state that free supply is “not possible.” The response also focuses more on why water is difficult to provide than on whether households should pay, and the reasons are not developed with a specific example or explanation of possible alternatives. The response is 22 words below the required minimum. State your position consistently and extend the argument with a concrete example and fuller reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an opening, supporting paragraphs and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly” and “To conclude” help signal the stages of the argument, and the ideas about population, pollution and purification are broadly related. However, progression is sometimes difficult to follow: the first paragraph presents two conflicting views, and the move from pollution to glacier melting and water shortage is abrupt. Several ideas are packed into long sentences, while the final paragraph repeats earlier points rather than drawing them together clearly. Use separate paragraphs for distinct reasons, make the relationship between each cause and your position explicit, and use linking phrases to show how the points connect rather than relying mainly on numbered transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “polluted,” “natural environment,” “water shortage,” “glaciers” and “purify,” so the reader can understand the subject and your main reasons. However, the range is limited and some word choices or combinations are noticeably inaccurate, which occasionally makes the meaning less clear. For example, “water flow was also affected” is vague, “installed” is not a natural choice for water-treatment facilities, and “sold on less cost” does not express the intended idea idiomatically. There are also spelling errors such as “diareaHa.” Build a more precise set of collocations for water supply and treatment, and check spelling and word forms carefully. The vocabulary is relevant, but greater accuracy and variety would make the argument easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including cause-and-effect structures such as “with the increase in population” and “which requires money to operate.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction can make the reader work to understand the point. Examples include “total population were,” “people start damaging,” “Drinking water become polluted,” and “it can sold.” The opening also contains a run-on sequence of clauses, while the conclusion lacks clear sentence boundaries. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “because,” “although” and “which.” Proofread each sentence for tense, agreement and a complete verb phrase.
