Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you completely agree that households should receive clean water without charge. You give relevant reasons, including its use for drinking, cooking and washing, and connect unsafe water with illness. However, the response only partly develops the central claim about free provision. Much of the discussion explains why clean water matters, rather than why it should be free or how this should be funded; the claim that free access is a basic right is mostly repeated rather than supported. The examples of kidney failure and typhoid are relevant but are not explained in detail. To strengthen the response, develop a reason specifically about affordability or equal access and support it with a clear, realistic example. The response contains 324 words; 12 words copied from the task prompt were excluded from the count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The paragraphs broadly group related points, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Moreover” and “In conclusion” help show the intended stages of the argument. However, progression within the body paragraphs is often difficult to follow: the first moves from household uses to disease, then to life expectancy, while the second repeats similar points about cooking and health. Several linking expressions are used inaccurately or mechanically, including “whereas” in places where the relationship between ideas is unclear. Improve cohesion by giving each paragraph one distinct reason, arranging its explanation and example in a clear sequence, and using pronouns and connectors only when their references and logical relationships are precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “clean water,” “immunity,” “typhoid fever” and “productivity,” so the reader can understand the subject and your main points. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, especially “clean water,” “good health” and “people of the country.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as “governmenrt,” “expencancty,” “helathly” and “free of cost,” which reduce accuracy and sometimes make the wording awkward. Some combinations are not natural, for example “damage the human body from inside” and “body basic nutrients.” Build a more precise set of topic phrases and check spelling and collocation; this will help express your ideas more clearly without relying on repeated wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, for example the sentence beginning “For example, if the residents…” This shows an effort to explain causes and consequences. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty; frequent errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction can make parts difficult to follow. Examples include “the residents … is not getting,” “the persons drinks,” and “it will the individuals,” where the subject and verb patterns are not controlled. There are also run-on sentences and punctuation problems, particularly where several ideas are joined with commas and “whereas.” Practise building shorter, accurate sentences first, then combine them using correctly formed conditional and relative clauses. Check each sentence for a clear subject, verb and complete clause.
