Student answer (Band 6.0)
In modern era, many people believe that all human beings have the right to access clean drinking water, and every household should be supplied with fresh water without any charges. I believe its beneficial for the society, although it can cause economic challenges.
Water is the basic necessity of human life, which is essential for the survival of humans. Availability of purified water in every house would result in better health of the society as their would be less disease, for instance, water that is purified contains less germs as compared to the contaminated one, which can cause several diseases like cholera and malaria, therefore, purified water can improve the health and lower the medical expense. Furthermore, it would be cost effective for those who cannot afford purified water in their home.
on the other hand, giving free access of clean drinking water to the people without any charges can cause economic challenges, governments would have to face financial hardships, as providing clean drinking water would require machinery and significant amount of funds, which might not be possible if the drinking water is not charged. Moreover, providing clean water would require large amount of pipelines which would be attached to every house, due to which human labour would be required. Apart from that, people might waste water if it is free, which can cause water shortages in future.
In conclusion, clean drinking water is basic necessity of human beings for their survival, and every house should have access to it, however the economic hardships should also be taken into consideration.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you support free household access to clean water while acknowledging economic concerns. You address both sides with relevant points, including improved health, reduced medical costs, the expense of treatment and pipelines, and possible waste. The health example of cholera helps make the argument concrete. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that free water would be cost-effective for people who cannot afford it needs a clearer link to the proposal, and the financial challenge could be developed with a specific consequence or solution. The conclusion restates your view but does not resolve how the economic concerns should be balanced against the right to water.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting free access, a paragraph outlining drawbacks, and a conclusion. The contrast between the two main body paragraphs is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “On the other hand,” and “Moreover” help signal relationships between ideas. This gives the essay coherent progression. At times, however, connections feel mechanical, and several points are joined into long sentences, particularly in the discussion of health benefits and government costs. The reference in “their would be less disease” is also unclear. To strengthen cohesion, separate distinct claims into shorter sentences and use more precise links that show cause, result, or contrast rather than relying mainly on familiar transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “purified water,” “contaminated,” “financial hardships,” “machinery,” and “water shortages.” These choices allow you to discuss health, infrastructure, and public spending, and the meaning remains clear. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural collocations and word forms, such as “access of clean drinking water,” “less germs,” and “significant amount of funds.” Repetition of “clean drinking water” and “charges” limits flexibility, while “fresh water” is not always as precise as “safe drinking water” in this context. Aim to learn common word partnerships and vary repeated terms carefully; this would make the vocabulary more precise and natural without changing your clear central message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including relative clauses (“which is essential for the survival of humans”) and conditional language (“if it is free”). Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “their would be less disease” instead of “there would be fewer diseases,” “every house should have access” after the opening reference to households, and missing articles in phrases such as “basic necessity” and “significant amount.” The long sentence beginning “Furthermore, it would be cost effective” also joins several clauses with commas, making punctuation and sentence boundaries less controlled. Review articles, subject–verb agreement, plural forms, and comma splices, while keeping the useful variety of sentence structures you already attempt.
