Student answer (Band 5.0)
Water is the most fundamental resource of human life. As life cannot be imagine without it. If water is not consumed in its pure form, it can cause many diseases. Access to clean water is a basic human right. Many people believe that every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge. To a great extent, I disagree with it.
On the one hand, everyone must use clean water because the polluted water can cause many diseases like Typhoid Fever, Cholera and some others. In many countries, government provides filtered water supply plants from where everyone can access clean water. A reasonable price system must be established to get as well as to reduce the extraordinary usage of clean water.
On the other had, there are also some individuals who had a believe that every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge which is completely wrong because government cannot afford to provide clean water to everyone. Water must be filtered, passed through pipes and maintained regularly. All of this required electricity, labor and infrastructure expenses that may have a heavy burden on the government. For instance, the developing countries like Pakistan who has been facing the shortage of water, if start providing free water to everyone can damage its national budget. Making it free would collapse the whole system.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that access to clean water is a basic human right. But government should establish a reasonable price to obtain the clear water. This would be helpful for the government itself and also reduce the probability of wastage of water.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your position is identifiable: you support clean water as a right but disagree that it should be free, and you give relevant reasons about treatment costs and government budgets. The Pakistan example helps illustrate the financial concern. However, the response addresses the issue only partially: the case for free access is mainly reduced to the health risks of polluted water, without explaining why this right should entail a free household supply. Your counterargument is also asserted rather than fully developed. The conclusion introduces “clear water,” which is less precise than clean water. The response is 228 words, 22 words below the 250-word minimum; 44 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop both sides with fuller explanation and a more specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the contrast between “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” gives the reader a basic route through your argument. However, progression within paragraphs is limited: the first body paragraph moves from health risks to water plants and pricing without clearly explaining how each point supports your position. Some linking is mechanical, and the opening fragment, “As life cannot be imagine without it,” interrupts the flow rather than connecting smoothly to the previous sentence. The conclusion repeats the main position but does not draw together the reasons. Use complete, connected sentences and make each paragraph develop one central point in a clear sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “filtered water,” “infrastructure expenses,” “national budget” and “wastage of water,” which helps communicate the main argument. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “clear water” for “clean water,” “extraordinary usage” for unusually high consumption, and “a believe” for a belief. “Water supply plants” is also imprecise in this context. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding your position, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim to use accurate collocations consistently and vary repeated terms such as “water” and “government” where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex structures, including the conditional “if start providing free water to everyone” and the sentence explaining the costs of filtering and maintaining pipes. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences awkward or difficult to process. For example, “As life cannot be imagine without it” is a fragment and uses an incorrect verb form; “Water must be filtered, passed through pipes and maintained regularly” has faulty parallel structure; and “the developing countries like Pakistan who has” has agreement and relative-pronoun problems. There are also errors in “All of this required” and “if start providing.” Practise complete sentences, subject–verb agreement, verb forms and parallel constructions.
