Student answer (Band 6.0)

Access to clean water is essential for human survival, and some people argue that every househeld should recieve a free water supply. I agree with this view becuase claen water is necessary for good healt and should be affordable for evryone.

To begin with, one important reason why water should be free of charge is that, clean water is essential for good health. This is because we need water for daily uses such as drinking, cooking and showering. If water is so epensive, low-income families will face difficulty to get proper supply of water, Addtionally it will lead to many health issues. For instance, in my area the water is so expensive, so the families with limited income sources use the contaminated water which leads to many illness such as Cholera and others diseases.

Another imprtant piont is that, water is a basic human right. If water is readily accessable, individuals can maintain clean water easily. Government should be responsible to have some policies regarding the avaliabilty of clean water to the community, because it considers as a fundemental in every society. For example, if clean water is avaliable without charge the citizens will not worry about the price and the sources of water.

In conclusion. although some people believe that clean water should be avaliable free of charge, I believe that having clean and free water supply can be beneficial to society and individuals. The rate on diseases that happen due to contaminated water will decrease and the people will not be srtessed out ragarving the avaliability of clean water.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you agree that households should receive clean water without charge, and you maintain this view in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons about health and water as a human right, supported by examples such as low-income families using contaminated water and the risk of cholera. This addresses the task well. However, some points are less fully developed: the second body paragraph repeats the idea of access and affordability without explaining how a free supply could be provided or what limits might apply. The example from your area is relevant, but its connection to the broader proposal could be explained more precisely. Developing these points and addressing practical considerations would make the argument more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The ideas progress from health benefits to the human-rights argument, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Another important point” and “In conclusion” help the reader follow the discussion. This gives the essay a coherent arrangement. At times, however, linking is mechanical or unclear. For example, “This is because” introduces a list of everyday uses, while the relationship between free water and the claim that people can “maintain clean water easily” is not fully explained. Some sentences also run ideas together, particularly in the first body paragraph. Use clearer links between claims, explanations and examples, and vary transitions so the organisation feels more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main argument, including “human survival,” “low-income families,” “contaminated water” and “fundamental.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the issue beyond very basic terms. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “househeld,” “epensive,” “accessable” and “avaliabilty.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise: “limited income sources” would be clearer as “limited incomes,” and “maintain clean water easily” does not express the intended idea naturally. Aim to learn accurate spelling of key topic words and use common collocations, such as “access to safe drinking water” and “waterborne diseases.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If water is so expensive, low-income families will face difficulty…” and a reason clause beginning “because.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors recur. For example, the comma after “is that” in “one important reason … is that, clean water” is incorrect, and “the families with limited income sources use” needs more accurate article and number choices. The conclusion begins with a full stop after “In conclusion” rather than a comma, and the final sentence has an unclear grammatical construction. Check sentence boundaries, articles, plural forms and punctuation, then proofread complex sentences to ensure each clause is complete and clearly connected.
