Student answer (Band 5.5)

I highly agreed to this statement due to many reasons. As we all know, water is a basic human need, and it's not basic only for humans but also for plants and animals. Science discovered that about 60% of the earth is water.

Every human body needs a minimum of 2 to 3 litres of water on a daily basis to function the body appropriately. It's a right of everybody to get fresh and clean water for free. Just incase if the water cannot be free for some particular reason, it should be paid by the government but not from the innocent civilians because they are already paying the taxes and managing their household chores.

In my opinion, the government should also provide clean and fresh water coolers on main roads so even the travellers don't have to pay for water in tuck shops. This is a basic facility that every human deserves, and there will be no hassle of getting water anywhere

It is also the responsibility of civilians to make sure they don't waste water; instead, take benefit from it. Because we all know that if we are getting something for free and even if it's our need, we are not taking care of it just for the sake of money. When we are paying for our basic needs, we are making sure we don't waste water

Even for the government, it isn't easy to provide water supply to every single home. We should always try our best to take rights.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you strongly support free access to clean water, and you give relevant reasons, including health needs, fairness to taxpayers, and the government’s role. The suggestion to provide public water coolers also extends your argument beyond household supply. However, the response only partly develops the task: the claim that water should be paid for by the government is not explained in practical terms, and the final point that supplying every home is difficult is left unresolved. The discussion of water conservation is relevant, but its link to charging households is not fully clarified. To strengthen the response, explain how free provision could be funded and address the difficulty you raise while maintaining a consistent position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from your position to supporting reasons and then to a qualification about the government’s ability to supply every home. Paragraph breaks help separate these points. However, progression is not always clear: the paragraph about civilians paying taxes shifts abruptly to public water coolers, and the final paragraph introduces a challenge without explaining how it affects your overall argument. Linking phrases such as “Because we all know” are repeated and do not always show the precise relationship between ideas. Some references, including “it” in “take benefit from it,” are unclear. Group related reasons together, use transitions that show contrast or cause, and finish with a conclusion that resolves the qualification.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “basic human need,” “fresh and clean water,” “taxes,” and “household chores.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “water supply” and “basic facility.” However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise, which limits clarity: “I highly agreed” does not express your position idiomatically, “take benefit from it” is an awkward collocation, and “tuck shops” may not be clear to all readers in this context. Repetition of “basic,” “water,” and “free” also makes the range feel limited. Aim for more precise phrases such as “strongly agree,” “make use of,” and “public water fountains,” while varying repeated terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, and the main message is generally understandable. For example, the sentence beginning “Just incase if the water cannot be free” tries to express a conditional idea, but its structure is faulty; a clearer form would be “If water cannot be provided free of charge for a particular reason, the government should cover the cost.” There are also errors in sentence boundaries and punctuation: the final two paragraphs end without full stops, and “Because we all know…” is used as a sentence fragment. Some constructions, such as “to function the body appropriately,” are grammatically awkward. Practise forming complete conditional sentences and checking articles, prepositions, and punctuation, while retaining your attempts at longer structures.
