Student answer (Band 5.0)

Water plays very imporant part in our lives.Even if we see our anatomy, we realise that about 70% to 80% of our body is made up of water. We need water to drink, cook, wash, use in different juice factories and in agriculture. On Earth, there is about 70% water but the useable is only 1% of that.

Fresh and clean water is very important for humans to stay healthy and live a normal life.If someone does not have enough supply of clean water to drink and he drinks dirty or used water, he may get sick and become serious patient. For example, if we see the people of Africa who rely on dirty and less amount of water have very dry skin and different health issues due to less intake of clean water or use of dirty water.

The enough supply of fresh and clean water insures that you are drinking it, cooking meal after washing it in it, living in the houses cleaned with it, wearing clothes after washing them in it and taking bath by clean water. If one is doing all these jobs with clean water, his chances of getting sick decreases as compare to the person who is not using clean water.

Access to clean water is a basic human right. Therefore every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge. The World Health Organisation needs to take serious actions in this regard and insure the supply of clean water to every home all over the world specially in the countries like Combodia, Algeria and many African countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You explain why clean water matters for health and daily activities, and your examples of drinking, cooking and washing are relevant. However, the response only minimally addresses the central question: it does not clearly state whether you agree that household water should be free, or explain how such a supply could be funded or managed. The final sentence calls for action by the WHO, but this does not develop a clear argument about free provision. The example about people in Africa is broad and not supported with specific detail. The response is also 10 words below the 250-word minimum; the 23 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. To strengthen the response, state your position directly and develop reasons and examples that address the cost and responsibility of providing water.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable sequence: it introduces water’s importance, discusses health, lists household uses, and ends with a call for action. Paragraph breaks help separate these points, and phrases such as “For example” signal supporting information. However, the progression is limited because the paragraphs largely repeat the importance of clean water rather than building an argument about whether it should be free. Some links are awkward or unclear, particularly the transition from the general discussion of water to the claim about people in Africa. The final paragraph also repeats the prompt’s statement without connecting it to the preceding points. Organise the essay around a clear position, with each paragraph developing a distinct reason and a concluding summary.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “basic human right,” “supply,” “agriculture,” and “health issues,” so the main subject is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the response less natural. For example, “serious patient” does not express the intended idea clearly, and “the useable is only 1%” is an imprecise way to describe available freshwater. “Insures” is also used where the meaning appears to be “ensures.” Spelling errors such as “imporant” and “Combodia” are noticeable. Build a more precise range for discussing access, affordability and public provision, and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the conditional structure “If someone does not have enough supply … he drinks dirty or used water” and the longer sentence listing household uses. Meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in sentence construction and punctuation are frequent enough to affect fluency. For instance, “Water plays very imporant part in our lives.Even if” lacks an article and has no space after the full stop; “his chances … decreases” has a subject–verb agreement error; and “as compare to the person” is not grammatically formed. Some sentences also become difficult to follow because several ideas are joined together. Practise accurate articles, agreement and sentence boundaries, then use complex structures in shorter, controlled sentences.
