Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that supply of clean water should be free of charge as it is a basic human right. I totally agree with the view because clean water saves people from many diseases and ensure healthier lifestyle.

Clean water is necessary for everyone. Firstly, clean water saves people from many health issues. For example, by drinking impure water, every year thousands of people die in Bangladesh because of cholera and diahorrea. When clean water would be provided free, people of all background would drink fresh water which would help them to stay away from water borne diseases. That is the reason government should provide free access to clean water to mitigate the health problems.

Another significant benefit is that free water supply would make people become more aware of health conditions. They can learn about the healthier impact of clean water which can assist them to follow a better healthy lifestyle. If every home have free water supply, they can use it for not only their drinking but also for their other household works. Take Japan as an example, where their government has established some projects which can recycle used water so that they should never face any clean water shortages. This is why every people should get equal access to clean water as for free to make their life more healthier. Thus, supplying of free water can provide benefits to everyone.

In conclusion, while free access can increased water wastage, government should first improve few rules and regulation and then granted free access. Because of free water service, citizen can stay healthier by protecting them from many fatal water based diseases.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you totally agree that clean water should be free, and the essay gives relevant reasons about preventing disease and supporting healthier lives. The Bangladesh example helps illustrate the health argument, while the Japan example introduces water recycling. However, the second body paragraph does not fully explain how free household water would make people more health-aware, and the recycling example is not clearly connected to why water should be free. The conclusion also introduces a qualification about wastage and government rules that is not developed in the body, making your final position less consistent. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation and ensure examples directly support your argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the main ideas generally progress from health benefits to household use. Linking phrases such as “Firstly,” “Another significant benefit” and “In conclusion” help signal this organisation. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear: the Japan recycling example does not clearly follow from the point about health awareness, and “This is why” repeats the preceding claim rather than advancing the reasoning. The conclusion’s concern about water wastage appears suddenly. Use clearer links between each claim and its example, and make sure the final paragraph follows from the arguments already presented.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “basic human right,” “water-borne diseases,” “recycle used water” and “water shortages.” These choices make the subject clear, and you attempt some less common expressions. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, however, such as “healthier impact,” “other household works,” “free access … as for free” and “water based diseases.” There are also spelling errors in “diahorrea” and “regulation.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim to learn common collocations for this topic and check spelling, especially in key examples and concluding statements.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If every home have free water supply” and a relative clause in “where their government has established some projects.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. Examples include subject–verb agreement in “clean water … ensure” and “every home have,” and incorrect verb forms in “When clean water would be provided” and “government should … granted.” The final sentence beginning “Because of free water service” is a fragment, while “can increased” also has an incorrect verb form. Review agreement, conditional forms and sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence for a complete and correctly formed main clause.
